WMK and FWE incompatibilty

I've followed all load order instructions but cant get WMK working with FWE weapons. Please tell me where I'm going wrong. There are so many weapons I'm itching to modify and each time I activate the workbench it tells me 'this weapon cannot be modified'. I have read that you can't modify all weapons but nothing but basic weapons will work. Any light shed on matter?
