no dragons in the open world?

I have a problem. On my way to Whiterun to inform the Jarl about dragons, I came across some imperials with a prisoner. I thought, hey, I should help this guy out just in case they're going to murder him like they almost did me. Plus, they were in my face, ordering me away. So I just did what any budding hero would do, I attacked. I only barely survived because of my potions at that level and being a nube, however, then the Whiterun guards started attacking me too! I had to run, swimming away in the river. Now, I can't get to the Jarl. I can't start the main dragon quest. After some reading, apparently, dragons will never appear either. Is this true? I thought this game was different. I thought I could follow a moral path and complete the game.

Have you tried surrendering to the guards of whiterun? by sheathing your weapon? sometimes that works.

Oh, nevermind. I figured it out. I fixed the bug by using the console. For others out there who don't believe in all knowing guards and faster than light warrants for unseen crimes, just toggle enemy detection when entering cities. Type "tdetect". It's more realistic this way and you can follow your own moral path. Really, I don't get why freeing a prisoner stops dragons from attacking Skyrim. Oh, wait. That must be the other way to beat the game, yes? If you do something really good, like risk your butt for someone you don't know, the dragons will spare Skyrim altogether. Seriously tho, I love this game, just not the main story. But no main story, no dragons. Enter console.

I did learn about that option, too. It just kills the immersion for me. Why would my character do that after nearly being executed as a prisoner? It doesn't make any sense to me. I can run and get away and it's a foreign city to me that I'm only visiting in order to talk to the Jarl. Why go back and surrender and risk execution when there's a whole world out there?

It was dark anyway, so they shouldn't even know who I am. Just some stranger. Yet the guards have supernatural omniscience.

Sorry, I'm just so worked up about this design that goes against my choices in the game because, well, I really love this game, dammit. Why did they feel the need to omit dragons until you talk to some dude?

Anyway, like I said, problem solved using the console. Toggle detection off or lower your crime level. Please, don't just surrender to more guards unless you're not immersed in the game or maybe you feel guilty because you did actually do something wrong.

*facepalm* So you find it fine to go on a killing spree after almost being excecuted? And then you find it weird the super cops of Whiterun hates you?

eh....

Though I agree TES games got a bunch of super cops with a sixth sense. I find it weird you complain they hate you, when you went on a killing spree because you almost got executed. If anything, I would attack you on sight too.

Think of the start of the game as an "tutorial", of sorts. You don't risk having a dragon on top of you before you at least got some gear.

I mean, what would you do if a dragon swooped down when you first leave Helgen? You'd have no chance.

Besides, the dragons don't start to come frequent before you progress in the main quest. They are rather rare in the start of the main quest, and way too common afterwards. I find it pretty cool: If you want dragons, you either hunt them or you advance the main story.

kills the immersion

Is it possible to have any immersion in Skyrim? I don't know, the game is awesome and all that, but its way to.. eh.. simple to immerse into and RP.

No killing spree for me. More like a stupid suicide mission for some bloke who died anyways. Technically, the Imperial guards attacked first because I wouldn't back down and go on my way. One drew his weapon first, so I drew mine, then he attacked. Funny thing, I saved the game after approaching them and every time I go back to that save, that one guard always draws his weapon first and I can't bring myself to not then draw mine, then he attacks... same every time. If the fight remains in the area up the hill from Whiterun, then no Whiterun guards notice. I change into Imperial armor, go down the hill, and still the all knowing Whiterun guards immediately attack. Sigh.

Btw, for anyone interested, typing tdetect into the console only prevents combat detection so you're still free to talk to NPC's. Conversation triggers still happen unless they require combat first, like killing a giant with the Companions (need to toggle it on to initiate the killing of the giant). Oddly, guards will still say stuff to you as you walk past them but won't do anything unless toggled on.The Jarl himself will only attack me with it toggled on yet will talk if off. Way kewl.

You should be able to run away, hit a cave, and chill for 3 days. Just like an old school outlaw.

Hah, maybe true. Though I'm not sure I agree with the term "outlaw". What law do they have that says execute an unknown person without even a trial? What law did my character break by stopping to ask possibly corrupt soldiers about their prisoner? Even though it is a time of war and my character was considering fighting on one particular side, I still tried to follow some sort of rules of engagement. One of the soldiers drew his weapon first. When I did the same, he attacked first. In real life, there are no legit laws allowing public servants to order around citizens. A clue to secret corruption is always the line "official business, move along". Bad things often happen when good people do nothing.

Yeah I dunno about all of that, I see both sides to it. But I do know that hiding somewhere (even in another Hold territory) for 3-7 days will kill the aggro that guards/townies will have. Bounty, of course, is a different story....

Did you know that in game Whiterun County is marked as Imperial Zone. There are 3 Imperials Guards , killing one of them is 1000 Bounty unless there was no witness but hey there are two other there who are witnesses.

Also let say the Police in our world is transporting a prisoner to another Prison and block their way, they ask you to move your car out of the road and show you that they are armed. What you do is take up a gun right now and tell them you are also armed. What would the Police do ?

But the best part is in Skyrim they aren't the Police they are the Army who is in middle of a war and you are in their darn way armed.

And there are no Super Guards. You can assassinate every Guard and Shopkeepers in a city without getting a single bounty on you.

But there is this one bug..... killing a last victim of your crime only clears your last Crime the victim saw... so if the Victim saw you kill two Guards.... 1000 bounty and 1000 bounty it will only clear 1000 bounty... and people with 1000 bounty get attacked on sight.... people with 500-999 get arrested on sight.... under 500 nothing. I think those are the numbers... the 500 one could be lower.
