Dan3345
So I just built my new PC. It was a transfer of an old HDD that I wiped with a clean install of windows 7 64 bit and all new part (save for the CPU and GPU). Now I have a problem where after I play skyrim my entire PC is noticeably slower. Its very obvious because when I scroll over the pins on my taskbar they highlight much slower then normal, and most programs take a bit longer to load. Also, after playing skyrim amd's vision engine control center will load but I cannot click on any part of it and the only way to close it is to end the process in task manager. My new antivirus software (Trend micro Titanium) becomes impossible to open and thus I cannot turn it off or change anything in it after playing skyrim. I will double click to open it and nothing happens. I only have one other game installed and that is saints row the third and this doesn't happen after playing that. This computer has only been built and running for the last five hours so I don't think it's possible I have a virus. I checked to be safe though and nothing came back. My computer 6950 2gb1100TGX990FX F5 AMD Gigabyte mobo8gb's corsair vengeance RAM950watt silencer PSU. Its so large because I planned on getting another 6950 for xfire. This could possible be driver related I think. I can never find drivers for my processor, not even AMD has them which I am not sure what that means. Maybe they don't make drivers for processors as the CPU does not need them? My mobo is running on the drivers and bios I got from the disk it came with. HDD has no drivers to my knowledge. 6950 is running on 12.1 which I think work really well and I was using them without issue on my old computer. tristan2
I have same issue after installing Patch 1.3, do you have any patches (Updates) Installed? could be Skyrim related.
Nekrafilia
Check your task manager and see if you have a run away process after noticing the slowdown. Anything that is using excessive cpu, disk read/writes or memory delta change (in the positive) is an issue.
Saraane
First of all, nice system! I have a built too and I love it. How often do you restart your system? If I don't restart for three days I notice the same thing. Also, how long does this last? I have been known to experience a slowdown for about 5-10 minutes sometimes after quitting Skyrim but then the system speeds back up. Could it be possible you are running the game with HD mods and one of them is glitched? Try deactivating them and see if the problem persists. Last question, when you built your new computer, did you make sure that all the parts were fully compatible with each other? For instance, because of a small mistake in buying a mother board, if I get four gigs of ram (which I will in Feb,) I will only be using three to three and a half. (Though with eight gigs I can't imagine that's the problem).
Dan3345
I never realized I got replies in this thread X( So yeah the slowdown seems to last until I reboot though honestly I haven't let it sit for any large amount of time afterwards to see if it stops. Second I always check task manager to see if I can stop some background process/app that skyrim is ruining or if TESV.exe is running when it shouldn't be. This is never the case. Ever. Never ever. I can't stress this enough, since December 26th 2011 the day I finished building my new computer this has been happening. The only things I took from the old are the HDD, the GPU, and the CPU. So something you could blame but I would not are the HDD. I have cleaned it many times, reinstalled the OS after formatting etc etc. I am not a huge computer expert but I do know a bit and think that all of my hardware is compatible. The slowest part of my computer is my HDD which gets a WEI score 5.9 while everything else is between 7.5 and 7.9. But speed alone doesn't have much to do with this problem to my knowledge. Here is another thread I started a while ago with the same problem. I found some workarounds in this one and possible solutions. I emailed the creators of SKSE and they sent me a link to a beta version of SKSE v1.4.2 which did not solve the problem. Today we switched from Slime warner cable to verizon and so with blazing fast internet speeds I reinstalled skyrim after uninstalling it and cleaning the registry in 15 minutes. Launched and ran with new save, no mods, just vanilla. Closed game and same problem. CPU working under load with no games running and very few background programs running. CPU logger shows 60% of CPU being used AFTER closing skyrim. Here is the other thread I have, if you would like to help me I suggest you skim this to get a better idea of what I have tried and what I have found. Check this out for an idea of whats going on. I am really stumped here and would greatly appreciate any help any of you can offer.
