Fighting for the Empire is good for the Thieves Guild & the Colleg

Joining the Empire and crushing the rebels heavily benefits the Thieves Guild because:

- Maven Blackbriar becomes the Jarl of Riften. Maven is an influential partner of the guild and becoming Jarl will only increase her power and the guild's.

- Olfrid Battle-Born, another powerful partner of the guild, will have more influence over the Empire if they are in power. This is because he is an open supporter of the Empire and if the rebels were to take over Skyrim, he would have less influence over them.

- I'm not sure about this point but Skyrim's economy will be more prosperous if it is part of the Empire and that is positive for the guild because there are more goods to steal and more merchants to extort.

- Again another point I'm not sure about: smuggling goods into Skyrim will be easier if the Empire is in power because borders will not be as strictly guarded. If the rebels take over Skyrim, borders will be well guarded and smuggling products will be more risky.

And the college of winterhold will reap the rewards of the Empire as well because the Nords are averse to magic and having only Nords rule Skyrim might prove to be dangerous for them. The Empire is open minded and that is positive for the college (my favourite faction).

What do you all think?

How do you think the civil war outcome would affect the Dark Brotherhood and the Companions? How would the war affect anything else?

Not to many changes. The Companions will be a sword for hire when they need fighters to clear out bandits/animals and the Dark Brotherhood does what they need to survive.

it seems to me that both the College and the Dark Brotherhood will gain much if the Empire wins the civil war, and they will both win in the exact same way

if the Empire wins, then Skyrim is part of the Empire, which means more open borders, and so more people coming and going, and more people moving there to live

as a result, there will be more mages eager to study, which will benefit the College, and as more people come and go, this will surely benefit the Dark Brotherhood

after all, the more people coming and going, the more rivalries will surface, which is just more business for our favorite assassins

as for the Companions, being a small group of true Nords, a circle of trusted members, they will probably benefit a true Nordic society much better than an open Empire's rein, so for them it is probably not for the best

however, they will also probably gain from the increase of population, at least until a rivaling group will rise (like the Fighter's Guild in Oblivion)

this approach, however, is based on a shorter, more immediate time line

perhaps on the long run, Skyrim is better off without the Empire, and other bad external influences, due to the conservative and unique nature of it's people

this is my perspective, though it doesn't really refer to the specific individuals, but more to the whole populace

My Tribunal Dunmer mage sided with the Legion, and I think Kraldar as Jarl (who gains his position because of the Legion) is much better for Winterhold and the College of Winterhold, given his positive opinion of mages and the College in general, as opposed to the pro-Stormcloak Jarl Korir's negative views of elves, mages, and magic.

The Companions don't seem to be involved in politics as a group because of Kodlak Whitemane, although some of the Grey-Manes are. I think the Dark Brotherhood could benefit either way, because they aren't technically sanctioned by either side, although Amaund Motierre could be the new Emperor and the murder of Emperor Titus Mede II could be seen positively by people who strongly disagreed with the Empire.
