I have 5,674,346,795 of a certain item i cant drop

sooooo.... strange issue here.

 

i have a clothing item called "Traveling leather coat" and i have it twice in my inventory -

once it is in 0 quantity. yes. i have it in my inventory. i can look at the mesh and spin it around. and i have it 0 times.

i can not give it to anyone, scrap it or place it in a container or drop it. it's there. forever.

i didnt mind it that much. wasnt that bothered.

and something happened and i found this item at some point (cant recall when and how) and i picked it up or crafted it at some point and now i have this very same item as a second separate entry in my inventory and i have it like 5 billion times. if i could shoot coats i would kill every living thing with it because i have it more than bullets.

 

and i cant get rid of it.

 

not less strange is the fact that i am not overencoumbered. i just carry about 5,237,634,243 / 350 carry weight..

 

even a console command "Player.removeitem <itemID> didnt work. i used player.inv to see this item's ID and tried to remove it like this. didnt work. i didnt even remove ONE of the billion coats i have.

i could, however, use player.removeallitems and get rid of it, but it made me get rid of ALL the items i had on me:

i tried placing all the items i have (hundreds of them) in one container and i thought - i will put everything besides this stupid coat which i can't cuz its effing stuck and then use the player.RemoveAllItems command. get rid of it, and then take everything back.

 

doesnt work. because if i try and place everything i have in a container than i cant remove quest items, keys, cappy glasses, bobbleheads ets from my inventory, so i have all these items i cant remove (a lot of them) AND the coat and i dont want to use the RemoveAllItems command and lose those objects.

i tried finding a container (a desk) and click on it to get its ID and then do player.removeallitems <the containers ID> to move all these important intems into the container, but i guess that what happened is that it worked, but the game tried moving 5 billion coats into the container and the game crashes to desktop. every single time.

 

so, does anyone have any advice on how to remove this item from my inventory (besides loading a game from a few game hours later from before i had this duplication)?

I have to say...that is probably the single most unique technical question I've ever seen on these forums. Did you have the correct ID for it when using console commands to remove it? According to the wiki it's 000732b5. However if you can't remove it via console commands, I suspect the only way to fix this is to lose a few hours of play time and go back to a save before you got bugged. I would not be surprised if this is now baked into your save game. However I'd also give it a day or so and see if anyone else has a better suggestion.

Like damanding said, the easiest solution has got to be to revert to an older save.

 

But you could try dropping or moving only a few important items, one by one, then nuke the rest of your inventory. You can force drop quest items via the console, then pick them up again after your inventory is cleared.

 

It's weird, some previous games have had quest item containers that might have worked for you, but I can't find anything similar for FO4. You might want to look around and see if there's a mod that will help, but honestly it would be faster to just revert your save and replay those hours.

That's the regular "Leather Coat". The "Traveling Leather Coat" is 000732b9.

I had the same issue. Not sure if there's a fix, there are no save editors that can edit inventory that I know of. What I did is I went back a few saves and threw the offending item in a container and forgot about it, because the item was bugged well before it got duplicated, and at one point I even had 0 quantity of said item, couldn't unequip it and couldn't throw it out. I tried to remove the container with the item still inside but the game just CTD so I found a remote enough place for it so that I never have to bother with it again ;)

 

Since you said that removeAllItems works, maybe just write down the IDs of items you can't put in a container, and then add them manually one by one after removing?

I had the same problem but with a unique marine helmet and armor from Far Harbor. They were stashed in a box in my settlement with other unique stuff. I couldn't pick them up. Over time it just fixed itself. I don't know what made them screw up like that.
