What the eff?

So I'm in Skingrad, and I've found it's very buggy. There is really bad video stuttering, and many crashes that aren't in any other city. Crashes would happen when I start dialouge, open containers, or other random things. They seemed to be random, but I didn't have a problem with them. Then I tried to open the Skingrad city map thing, and the picture is all screwy, like a bunch of white and black boxes. The next time I try opening the map, the game crashes. It always crashed when I opened the Skingrad map. So later I try opening the map again, just to see if it crashes, and the game just froze. I Ctrl+Alt+Del the thing, and "ended the process," as the Task Manager would say. I open up Oblivion again, and it crashes without even going to the opening credits. I try again. Same thing.

 

1. Is there any way to fix this?

2. Do I have to reinstall?

3. If I do reinstall, can I save the mods I'm using? How about my save?

4. Is there any more information you need? ie, mod list, system info

Phew, that's a lot of mods.

 

Ok, do you have any mods that directly affect Skingrad, sorry, but I don't know what many of those mods do, and my eyes hurt from seeing the list.

Second, system specs, always good to have, especially as Skingrad seems to be the city I have the most problems with as well.

 

I think the first thing to do would be to turn off all the mods and see if it happens, then do an isolation mod test, ie turning half off, seeing if the problem remains and then getting rid of another half until you find the offending mod.

 

If that fails, I think reinstalling may be the only option, you could try removing the ini from the my games\oblivion folder first and let it create a new one, could be something screwy in there, but I doubt it.

 

If you are reinstalling I would suggest doing a complete reinstall, not just copying folders across, as this will probably lead to more problems. But is you really want to just get the mods across to the new install back up all the separate folders and files within the DATA folder that did not come with the initial install.

 

Sorry if this is a bit hard to follow, I'm not really thinking straight at the moment, just post again if I've been unclear.

I think I got rid of the game crashing while loading, and most of the stuttering in Skingrad has gone down. I think it was one of the mods I ended up deleting, because there was the meshes-cannot-be-found-triangle in the Skingrad Mages' Guild. But the crashes are still happening when I enter conversations or open boxes, but I might be able to deal with that.
