Tyrannus007
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if Skyrim still uses a version of facegen like Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout NV did?
throttlekitty
I don't know how similar code-wise this is to actual FaceGen, but Skyrim uses the .tri format, at least for storing morphs. They aren't using the .egm portion, which in previous titles held all the face shape morphs.
Alithinos
I think not.If I remember correct there was an interview where Todd Howard said that the new engine won't be using Facegen because Facegen gave too much freedom to people that allowed very ugly faces to be built, and that because he didn't liked his game to look ugly they included their own face generation system based on presets they made themselves.
throttlekitty
But the nice thing is that we can still use the Conformulator and some of Scanti's other tools to work with the .tri files.

I was amazed to see how much they had improved the vanilla faces as well as vanilla bodies, in comparison to vanilla Oblivion. Even if modders have to use new programs and methods, I doubt it will do anything to stop the landslide of incredible future modding, and perhaps we can expect far more flexibility and quality in term of Skyrim mods because of the new features.
