Spore Carrier animation bug

I'm on my third playthrough of NV (first time with any DLCs) and I've encountered an odd glitch with the spore carriers in Vault 22 that didn't occur on my last playthrough. Instead of laying still in the grass all sneaky like, playing dead like good little monsters, the spore carriers now appear stuck in the idle [crouched and looking around] animation as if they're active. They look around, but otherwise they don't move, and don't notice or attack me. They are still technically 'asleep' -- invisible on the radar and to companions. Only when I approach them do they jolt back to their correct animation of getting up from the floor and become active.

 

You can see what I mean in this screenshot: This one is dormant and should be laying down, but instead it's crouched like this.

Just to be sure it's not an issue with one of my mods, I disabled them all, started a new game, trekked all the way over to Vault 22 and had a look, and the problem still persists.

 

This glitch isn't game-breaking, but it is a bit of an immersion killer, and like I said I didn't have this problem last time I went through Vault 22 (which was with the base game only, version 1.3.0.452). Has anyone else experienced this issue or know how to fix it?
