Sounds like trouble...

Good day / night!

 

I've been experimenting this loud and annoying buzz that appears to trigger mainly around lights / lamps on occasion. The volume increases / decreases, depending on how close the character is to the source, or even weirder: it may increase / decrease / completely go away if I change the direction the character is facing. The later makes me believe this was not an intended immersion-enhancing effect for electric stuff in the game, so I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing / has experienced this issue and if there is any work arounds for this. Sounds like it's a "3d" sound file which is being used as a 3d positional sound.

 

The nomenclature is misleading. A 3d sound file contains multiple channels and sounds like it's coming from a certain location. Whereas the 3d positional sounds which the game records are supposed to use are actually mono sounds which are dynamically given position by the game engine.

 

A 3d sound should be used for something like gunfire when the player is firing it. A Mono sound should be used for something which occurs out in the gameworld. Otherwise turning one's head will cause the sound to disappear, like you mention.

 

It's also possible that your audio settings in control panel are set to 5.1 surround and you're actually only using a 2-speaker system.

Yup, I use 2 Speakers, though my audio configuration is set to "Stereo", full range speakers (right and left frontals). I will try updating my audio drivers as they seemingly date from 2010 (not sure on the current driver versions; never updated any of mine and I acquired this PC on April, 2011, which was built on order). I tried tweaking it to 5.1 and 7.1 in the audio settings just to see if anything changes, though without any success. I'll try the drivers update... maybe download an improved sound fx mod as well to see if there's any repercussion on the sound thing. If none of these work... well... *twists volume button to no sounds and lives unhappily ever after*
