Romance Mods!

NathanRyan,

My creativeness goes mostly into the book I'm working on, so I have little time and brains to spare on writing for mods :(

But the options, in few sentences each, are plentiful. Two just from the top of my head, as I really have to get to my uni work (even though I'd much rather stay and scribble at least 10 of these).

1. The NPC is under the curse that turned him into a cat. The plot is to decat the NPC who may later have still some funny antics left from the time of a curse (for a humorous modder!). The big bad evil wizard may just be the other romanceable option for the opposite gender.

2. Since we've werewolves in Skyrim, a mod could be based on that. Say, the NPC was afflicted by the disease and the trauma of such accident left them in the state of short-term memory loss. They're unaware of this and if a player discovers it when they transform, they may still be in denial of it. Could potentially lead to very romantic and fuzzy talks of acceptance and such.

Though all in all I believe that best way is sometimes to just make the romanceable NPCs fine for both player genders. It broadens the audience, lets more people enjoy them, and has a little price. Several dialogue lines more - because not acknowleding the difference wouldn't work too awesome and feel fake. I still realize that not every NPC could work this way personality wise! And not saying they should. I'm just saying, it's great, where it's possible :)

The whole idea of my request is to make it feelful, complex and individual. By no means a romance template run by scripts of any sort! :P

well im interested in writing the story for you, and see about modding it after the CK comes out. when you get time, send me a PM with the ideas you like, and tell me which ones you like the most and i can get started on the story, and instead of a collaboration, i can simply write the story and run it by you. what do you say? it might take a bit of time, cuz i have work and class, but i can write during the evenings, and maybe have it knocked out within a few days.

Hey, don't start fighting here. There's no point to it.

@ Sarpedon

That may be practical, but it's a completely different kind of mod and it would be made for people interested in completely different thing.

The kind of mods we're talking about here, is nothing impossible. There has been mods made like this before.

For Oblivion, I think it was RTT and Ariana Trudeaux at least. I think there's been one for Viconia de'Vir as well. There has also been a friendship mod I enjoyed very much called Dremora Companion. I don't think there has been a romance in it, but there have been quests and nice dialogue path.

But there has been tons of them made for Baldur's Gate and the writing was both extensive and very good. To name some and show you more people are capable of it:

Edwin's Romance,

Neh'taniel,

Nathaniel,

Tsujatha,

Solaufein Romance,

Imoen Romance,

Sarevoc Romance,

Kivan romance,

Xan romance,

Coran romance,

Chloe Romance,

Fade Romance,

Kiara and Zayia,

Nalia Romance,

Saerileth,

Tashia.

Some are still in the works, and there are more I didn't mention both standalone and as a part of BG1 NPC Project.

None of them was made with a help of a template. Many of them contain additional quests, fights, locations. And I believe modding BG was much less transparent than modding TES. And yet people did that. And it was practical enough :P

@NathanRyan

I wouldn't really want to force anyone to act on any of my ideas, that's not the point. Modding is to be fun and whoever takes on the romance mod writing, I by no means wish to steal the smallest bit of credit from them. I just want a romance mod, and I will be happy with any that's well written and long enough for me to immerse in it. And I know I'm not the only one in the community to :)

If you want to write a romance mod, you have my blessing and by all means, I would be happy to give you input, but I do not want you to feel controlled by my ideas or feedback. If you wish to write a romance, mod, make it what *you* want to write about and what will give *you* the enjoyment :)

When I'll have time to collaborate and actually do some work myself, THEN I will start bossing around :D Not before.

You are more than free to use either of the ideas I shot above, but by no means, as I said, are they the extent of my request.

I'd rather people treated this topic as a kind "please, please, pretty pleaaaase? *-*" kind of thing rather than "I want you to do this, DO IT NAO".

Thank you for your interest in the topic!

Was I being rude?

I made a suggestion that was not to that one's liking. Then I made another suggestion. Both were serious suggestions. Even though this thread was started by one person, lots will read it, and might find either, both or none of my suggestions useful. In my experience here, there's usually several attempts to fix something about a beth game, leading to one or more which become the most popular. I also notice that many very ambitious projects don't get realized. Writing and scripting an individual story for each candidate would be overwhelming for a small group, hence the suggestion that you might try to get many modders to contribute. And when I want someone to do something for me, I try to make it as easy as possible, hence the suggestion that you make some kind of quest framework to share. The fact that the published product has such a bare-bones sort of courtship is a testament to how time consuming a more satisfying solution would be.

May I add another suggestion? Perhaps the option to get married in places other than the temple of Mara. The idea that one can only get married in one place in the entire province is ludicrous. I hope that suggestion doesn't get my head torn off.

@ Sarpedon -

I don't think you were being rude. Just misunderstood.

Would Love more wedding locations. I married this merchant and he said that the ceremony was small but it would do! I didn't stay married to him went back to saved game. just wanted to see how much the marriage dialogue changed.

@ Esteris-

Thanks :) I think it's an excellent request you've made. I'm sure some one will take up the cause. sounds so thrilling! I'd love it simply if the courier would send the player notes or care packages from the spouse every now and again. I think that would be really sweet. check out the More independent companions. that also looks like something you'd like.

@ NathanRyan -

Cool, I can't imagine how you'll do it without voice acting, but it sounds awesome can't wait to see what you come up with.

I think arguments are productive. So long as it is for the benefit of the thread then arguing a point is a useful tool for improving the original idea. It may be criticism of the original idea, but it is a discussion board. We bring up valid points and discuss them..

With this type of mod there is a lot of work involved. If you want to go all out you've got to create custom story lines of the romance between the character and each marriable NPC.. which is something like 15 NPCs. Then you have to either create three different dialogues or create unisex dialogues to avoid the potential issue of your gay lumberjack lover calling you wife, when you are clearly the more manly of the two.. going out slaying dragons and s***.

Then you need to record voice actors for each NPC.. and for continuity replace their existing dialogue to avoid breaking the immersion. That is already hundreds of hours of work / recruitment.

Sometimes people need reality to slap them in their stupid face.

I am speaking in general.
