My Followers won't use their weapons

I have Annekke as a Follower, and Muiri as an animal companion. They both have the Follower dialogue, so I can equip them both with whatever weapons and apparel I chose. For some reason they always fight enemy bare handed. Muiri will use her magic, but no swords or bow. I used the "setplayerteammate 1" console command on Muiri so they both sneak and equip weapons when I do, but their weapons disappear as soon as they engage the enemy. I'm sure there's a simple console command for solving this problem, but I don't know what it is. Let me know if anyone else is experiencing this problem and what, if anything, can fix it.
