i just installed oblivion and recently tried to install the mod Natural_faces, but it didn't work. i tried many diferent ways to try and extract to things in my oblivion data file, and aparently i messed up. now my screen had a bunch of black rectangles all the time on my screen. especially ingame upclose to things and in the dark. i have to cut my resolution down from about 1920x1200 to about 1024x768. i uninstalled oblivion and reinstalled it but nothing changed. Trying to install that mod is the only change ive made to my game.

Uninstalling Oblivion does not really uninstall the entire game. It leaves behind more than it removes.

First, I recommend backing up your /Oblivion/data folder, the easiest way is to rename it to something like oldata. This preserves your mods.

Them back up the C:\documents and settings\your name\my documents\my games\Oblivion folder. again, just rename it to something like oldoblivion. Then use the uninstall from the original disk to uninstall.

When you reinstall, don't patch or reload any mods. First, start the game and make a save. this will create a new data folder, a new Oblivion.ini file and a new oblivion folder in your Documents and settings.

Now, if you use Shivering Isles, install that and again start and save. Then install the latest patch and only the latest patch. If you use Shivering Isles, Use that one. If not then use the latest Oblivion patch. Be sure to get the one for your language version - Note that there are 2 English versions, UK & US and they are different.

Again, start and save - now is a good time to back up the new files you just created - the same ones as before, this time make a copy of them in a new directory with names such as Newdata and newoblivion. Then if you want you can rename the old versions back to Data and oblivion - but then you might find you have the same problems. when reinstalling mods, only install a few at a time, then try it and save. that way you will always only have a few mods to worry about.

Edit: Just noticed from another post that you are using Vista. the file paths i specified are for WinXP , they will be slightly different on your system.
