The software you get from the Autodesk Education Community comes with a 36 month license.I have not noticed any watermarks on my tinkering projects so for me this is awesome.NifSkopeGimp You may also need a way to extract resources from .bsa archives. OBMM and FOMM do this well. As far as linking your new assets in game people are having success with SkyEdit but I would wait for the official construction set to be released sometime this month (soon). If your starting with no modeling experience at all I can guarantee you wont be worried about linking assets in game before the CK is released.
