UBER ULTRA LAGGY OBLIVION on Core 2 Duo

BTW, you CAN'T use AA + HDR using an NVIDIA card with Oblivion - it just is NOT possible. PERIOD. BethSoft has made it so. And I was also going to mention about the issues OB has with NVIDIA cards, namely the fact that NVIDIA performs better with OpenGL apps, rather than Direct3D apps. But I declined, lest I risk infuriating NVIDIA users and getting my head handed to me :rolleyes:

Pattern Recognition: the game lags a lot more when using an nVidia graphics card, but not an ATI card.

Perhaps Oblivion has issues with nVidia cards. If there hasn't always been a problem with nVidia in the past, then I propose an experiment: reinstall Oblivion, and run it without any patches. See if there is any difference in the frame rate.

Problem is, as I stated, I have Oblivion Running on my Girlfriend's pc (my old one wich is way slower) and it runs way better.

AMD4800 939

2 GIG Kingston Hyper-X

8800 GTS 640

VS

Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 3.20GHZ

2 GIG OCZ DDR2 1066

XFX 8800GT Extreme Edition

The core 2 duo outperforms the AMD machine on every front, benchmarking, gaming etc. JUST OBLIVION runs much worse!

Ensure you are using Vanilla Oblivion updated to the latest patched version. No mods, no SI.

Make sure all your drivers are up-to-date; motherboard, soundcard, gfx, etc.. Try disabling your sound card altogether and seeing if it is that.

Run a stability test with some benchmarking software. Get 3DMark to ensure those tests work ok.

Do a search for your gfx card on the official forums and see if others have a similar problem.

Those are my suggestions if, of course, you havent't already tried them!

Well, I did try all of those and ,sigh, still nothing. Cause as I mentioned, it's only Oblivion I have problems with.

Guess I'm gonna be sitting with this one for a while.

:thanks: anyways for all the help.

dude, AA+HDR was enabled / is enabled on ALL Geforce 8 series cards. You can use it, as me and thousands of other ppl are. Any card prior to an 8 series CAN't do AA+HDR.

So you can use it.

Not with OB - this is an issue that BethSoft has been unable to fix (apparently). I'm sorry, but it just is not possible with ANY NVIDIA card.

wth are you talking about, i use AA+HDR

all you have to do is force AA through your graphics drivers, and enable HDR through oblivion. it says it isnt doing it, but it sure as hell looks like its doing it to me :)

Dude, no offence, but I suggest you go use google a bit. Oblivion runs perfect with AA and HDR on ALL Geforce 8 Series NVIDIA cards. When Oblivion came out during the Geforce 7 series era, Nvidia users could not use it, while ATI users could do it Via the "CHUCK" patch. the G80 came out and rectified this. Hence me stating this as a problem aswell!

Allways used to have AA+HDR (8800GTS 640) now nothing.

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently sent an email to Bethesda about the performance lag, and they replied by saying that my card was not supported. Here's the contents of the email:

Oblivion for PC supports the following video cards/chipsets:

The card can be AGP or PCI and must have a minimum of 128mb of ram. You should check your system documentation or with the system manufacture to determine what slots are available on the mother-board for video.

* ATI X1900 series

* ATI X1800 series

* ATI X1600 series

* ATI X1300 series

* ATI X850 series

* ATI x800 series

* ATI x700 series

* ATI x600 series

* ATI Radeon 9800 series

* ATI Radeon 9700 series

* ATI Radeon 9600 series

* ATI Radeon 9500 series

* NVIDIA GeForce 7000 series

* NVIDIA GeForce 6000 series

* NVIDIA GeForce FX series

Hmmm.....

Just to confirm, when installing the drivers for your new video card did you clean the old drivers off? I forgot to do this once and it murdered my framerate in Prey. A friend sent me the following link that was pretty useful for me, so maybe it'll help you out too.

And one more thing, is your RAM running in dual channel mode?
