i would be more in favor of a LAN style multiplayer.

they could also make it work with mods :)

just make sure everyone has the same mods, or else the multiplayer wont work!

and if you are playing LAN with your buddies, then even if they killed everybody, you would have fun doing it :)

and then if you got serious, you could start over and roleplay!

An online version would be fine if it was un-modable with a offline option that could use mods, would probably mean more coding and bigger amount of hard disk space taken up but it would work fine. Unfortunately i don't see Bethesda taking the time to do that.. :(

Saying that it would also mean making all online npcs re-spawnable so the massacre types don't ruin online interaction... :whistling:

Id say itd work as long as it was a sepret program cause I want the old elder scrolls game play feel but I want a different program with different chars for a play, Id say maby a hosting ability for playing in groups and theyd have to make a whole new game for mmorpg sir.

Cause that would lose the elder scrolls feel unless it was a sepret game I feel that is the likley case. what is time anyway? is it a icecream treat?

a destructive atomic structure waiting for unlocking to grow and kill us all? hmm Well I feel a more advanced series is inorder too? a gunpowder age is good almost to far is you ask me. Only to the point of the musket and flint lock pistol should be cause I hate cannons unless there are very few scaled in an invasion or on a ship battle. THATS A GOOD 1 the new elder scrolls will have ships that go out to sea and travel between places cause I wanna ho back to cryodill THATS GREAT THE NEW ELDER SCROLLS WILL HAVE A MOD THAT LETS U GO BACK TO CRYODILL AND U CAN TRAVEL TO MORROWIND AND HAMMERFELL AND OTHER PLACES. you could invade castles the enamy force has made and battle over old ruins with a new team system. and i want to become a guard of a city or maby lead a group of people from some islands owned by some different or some owned by 1 bad lord and you lead a group of soldiers into a city on the shore and take over establish a base there save the people there and then they will get on the boat that arrives with reinforcments they will take them back to the main land you came from. then you try to take the island.

Maby from the "take them back to the mainland you came from" you will get to live under a different emporer on different lands that are all allied, with the other? Idk what is to come this is just a small idea to keep you all thinking and make you thirst for the new elder scrolls please keep drinking and maby your thirst will be hungered by a new consept hmm? :fakenopic:

I do believe there is room for multiplayer without changing too much of the game.

What I have in mind is private servers co-operative mode.

I put an example: you and 2 of your friends choose to start such a game.

You start the server, the login are pwd-protected, your friends join in.

You need to care about mods installed, in any case the game could check and distribute/install the packets missing to the other players and disable the ones the server has not included in the game. Every player needs to solve possible conflicts.

The server choose a starting location (if not from a saved game) and you do start questing / raiding dungeons. If you do not have too much evil friends it should work.

For quest rewards, it could be possible to choose among the players who will receive it any time, or they could be divided by player numbers (money) or multiplied times players number. I know, the second idea is not so nice in case of named equipment, like the ring of the Vipereye.

Of course the possibility to transfer money / equipment would be primary.

As for Guild rankings, all of you could have the same until GuildMaster -1. At that point you should choose who is the best Master for that guild (the stronger for Fighters, the most sneaky for Thieves, and so on...)

Trouble is, if online isn't moddable but solo is, you'd have to have checks and ballances at anyone trying to import modded items from solo game into MMO game.

This would be very hard, unless your character only gets imported 'naked' and all online armor / items are stored online and vice versa for solo gaming.

Also the trouble is you can easily cheat and hack your character to be god even without modded items (console anyone?) so this is unballancing for those (and there would be hundreds of thousands) doing such.

the only way to have a game like TES be online AND at home would be you have the world as a 'shell'. You have to log into the game online but can play solo - all items and content are downloaded to you when you enter an area (thus nothing is stored on your PC) but that would probably cause a lot of bandwidth problems as some contenct would take a while to d/l and thus remove the 'imersion' if you have to wait 4min to d/l the latest "main ingredient" items (or whatever), plus it would make dial-up users unable to play

(and yes some dial-up still is lurking around out there *sigh*)

So the game's platform won't work if you share it from solo to online (Unless they did the 'Diablo' route, but that wouldn't 'feel' right as a TES game)

P.S.

I'm against an online TES game.

Well, simply enough the online and multiplayer would be separate. They could easily NOT put the console into the online version, and make it un-moddable.

If people could just have an independant online character, host games and have people join the games, it would still provide a fun online experience. I guess what I'm saying is TES as an MMO wouldn't work, but it could work online.

TES is NOT an online game and I really don't want to pay a monthly fee to play with hundreds and have tchats that goes like: lol wtf omg imho etc....that will just ruins the RP side of a TES V and believe it or not I can play Oblivion in a RP kind of way.

Having said that and the very same way it was set up in Neverwinter Nights we could have a Multi Player Option (LAN or On Line) where one could host a game selecting his/her comrades for a specific adventure...

That would be great. This is feasible (it has been done already) this can also work with mod (all the players just need to have the very same mods installed) and believe me that can be fun.

my two cents

How about a gears of war type multiplayer? In single player you get a bot to control a teammate and in multiplayer somebody takes control of that bot? I know not a lot of people would like doing the single player bot thing, because of having to share XP and it might take away the lone adventurer feeling, but why not have the option to order the bot around and get him/her to adventure alone apart from you and not undertake any quests, just clear random dungeons. Hell, he might even leave the loot if you want him to. Or, get him to stand idly in a tavern...

You don't seem to have heard about the news: TES V is going to play in Skyrim. Perhaps you remember rumors in TES IV about a war between Skyrim and Morrowind. Maybe the story will be a kind of diplomacy where you have to do quests for both sides to remove the problems between them. And perhaps a daedra like Lorkhan, Jygalagg or so might come and you have to unite the parties to fight him and his forces.
