nix9862
i am quiet new to skyrim modding and i would like to start by just retexturing items / armor. i was wondering where do i start, how do i export the current models to get the texture, aswell as where to find these files. If you can tell me or link me to a tutorial that would be great! I really dont know anything about this so if you can just explain the basics that would be great Thanks

Nazo365
Hey I just started myself, here's what you need to get started on Textures Fo3 Archive Manager allows you to view the .bsa files skyrim uses. -- My link How to instal... If you don't already have Java then you need to go DL that first via this My link after you install Java. Find where you placed your Java program (probably in your C:\Program Files 86x\Java\jre6\bin. Open Java Bin Folder and pull out the Javaw file drop it to your desktop. Then back out to your C:\Windows and drop the file in there. Once you've done that DL the Fo3 archive Utility from file planet. Once you have it DL'd simply open the RAWR file and pull out the Fo3Archive.jar file and the Fo3Archive.link file and drop them both on you Desktop... Now to test to make sure it works just double click the Fo3Archive.link File and it should auto boot the Fo3 Archive manager. If this doesn't work then PM me with your problem. Now you'll need a DDS plug-in for your graphic editing program (i use Photoshop) witch you can get here -- My linkIf you don't use Photoshop then you'll probably have to do some research for the program you use. best place to start would be "you program name DDS reader" typed into a search engine (i use Google) or something along that line. Once you have the Nvidia plug-in installed you can gp back to your Fo3 Archive Manager and in the upper left - File\Open Archive\C:\Program Files (86x)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Data here you will be-able to now extract the armor file you want to re texture by opening "Skyrim - Textures.bsa" once its done loading up go to Textures\armor\"armor you wish to re texture" then highlight the armor you wish to extract make sure you get all 3 versions -- Color (will have a "ArmorName.dds") -- Normal (will have a "Armorname_n.dds") -- Spectral (will have a "ArmorName_m.dds") once you have your desired textures highlighted then in the upper left Actions\Extract Selected, Then save them out into the Skyrim Data file...it will keep the Tree structure so when you go to find your extracted Files they will be in your -- C:\Program Files (86x)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Data\texture\Armor\"ArmorName" and your 3 files can now be open in Photoshop. Hope this helps i know there's a lot here but tell the CK comes out we all have to make due with this process >.< Edited December 30, 2011 by Nazo365
Fatalmasterpiece
Meh I would just skip all that jaz with the archive manager and download FOMM. It's easy and you can extract .bsa with just a few clicks.
mgbeach
I came across this YouTube video and it really helped to get me started. I originally came across the link on one of the creator's mods here at Skyrim Nexus: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1930

rhumor
I'm new to all this modding also and I was following the youtube video linked by mgbeach and I ran into a problem when I was trying to install FOMM. I don't have Fallout installed on my computer and FOMM keeps asking me to Select Working Directory. Because of this I can't get it to finish installing. So, do I need the Fallout game on my computer? or is there someway around this?
