Just Starting Out

Hey everyone :D

 

Im compleatly new to modding and altering 3d objects and texturing and was wondering if anyone could explain some things to me.

I was wondering what all the different file do, such as nif, obj, ect. and how each one is put together to make a 3d model in game.

I was also wondering how textures are made and wrapped around a 3d mesh. I have absoutly no experience with cg or modding so it is very hard for me to find any clear tutorials on what the process is that doesnt assume any prior knowlege.

If anyone could help me out buy answering my questions or even linking me to a helpful tutorial for a complete noob. I will be very grateful :D

I second that. Would love to know how everything works and fits in.

PS: would be great if we also know what kind of software is required to make these mods.

 

 

Thanks, software wise I do know what to get :D the problem is I don't know how to use them....

 

For texture and meshes you need 3ds max (you can get for freee if u are a student)/or blender, nifskope and photoshop.

 

For actuall modding of gameplay and stuff, you will need the creation kit wich will come out soon I hope.

If ive made any mistakes please tell me as I have only attempted a little bit of modding in oblivion.. which ended in disaster :P

I am also exploring the idea of 3D modeling, and a program I found is made by autodesk, as 3Ds Max is, but it is free and meant for modders! I looks fantastic, as I've been looking at many tuts on it, it looks like it can do some amazing things, I just don't know much about it yet, so I can't be 100% sure it will work for modding with skyrim..... Search "Autodesk SoftImage 7.5" to check it out
