Skyviper086
What would it take to make it to where one could play a game of pool in New Vegas? Have the pool stick be held in a manner where it won't be used as a weapon? I like playing pool and I like Fallout ... I hate that I can't play pool in Fallout :( So I was wondering what would it take to make a such a mod work? Scripting, Animation? I'm just now learning how to do some things and maybe with time I'll be able to get better. If someone says its possible then my first real project would be to build a pool hall. It will most likely be crude but it will be effective. Edited December 30, 2011 by Skyviper086
meatisomalley
Ya that's kinda what i was thinking, but maybe you make it kind of like playing pool in GTA
Gribbleshnibit8
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, though a method I'm thinking of would require some heavy scripting as well as some HUD work and quite a bit of NVSE. I see a custom weapon or something else that could initiate the pool game, to prevent having to break to far out of the game (message boxes and what not). So you equip the weapon and stand in a certain area to let the game know you want to play pool. After a few seconds a game is set up on the table that you're standing at. So whatever fancy stuff you want to have happen, like setting up a triangle with the balls in it and all that jazz. To hit the balls would require some pretty nifty, though I don't think too terribly complex scripting. Player points their crosshair at the cue ball, and presses a key. Could be the attack key or something else, not sure, up to the creator of the mod. This 'charges' the shot, and is what the HUD element would be for, to show off how powerful the hit will be (jazzisparis might help with this part, but have something first). Releasing the key would then hit the cue ball. Hitting the cue ball is where it gets dicey. You would probably need to get some modified versions of the pool ball meshes, and possibly the table, to give them a better collision model that will roll properly and without too much friction. Simulating the surface of a pool table would be hard, but it doesn't have to be perfect as these are 200 year old tables and the fact they even still have felt is amazing. I'm not super knowledgeable about meshes, but I think it's actually possible to have different collision areas behave differently, so the bumper rails could actually be bumpy. Anyway, just my idea for how it might be done. :) Good luck, I actually wouldn't mind seeing this.
jazzisparis
This would present many challenges, as Gribbleshnibit8 pointed out. I'd like to add that it would also require creating an undetermined number of new animations for different poses/stances - this requires expertise very few people have. In all honesty, I think such project would be unreasonably complicated for a feature that is nothing more than novelty, and I suspect the results would be average at best. Gribbleshnibit8
I was just assuming we were making the game work, not adding poses or animations. Yes, that would complicate it unduly, but if you ignore new animations and just concentrate on making the game it would be possible. Jazzisparis is right though that it would be very complicated and difficult for something that's a novelty. However, if you want to attempt it, go ahead and give it a shot. It would be pretty cool.
