CTD when loading a save - even with a new game

I'm having trouble with a persistent CTD problem with Fallout 4.

 

I did a clean install, modded my game a lot, then started playing. Whenever I load a save, the game gets into the loading screen and then crashes to desktop after a while.

 

The crashes happen reliably every time when loading a save, even if the save is in the first room of the game, after exiting the face customization phase.

 

Usually I can start a new game fine, but it has also crashed a few times when trying that. In the same way: new game -> loading screen -> crash before the video starts playing.

 

I've tried uninstalling all mods, uninstalling Fallout 4, deleting leftover files, then installing the mods again paying more attention and discarding some dubious mods. It didn't help, I'm still experiencing the same symptoms.

 

I've got 191 active plugins, which is a lot, but not over the limit. Disabling the plugins one by one does not help, which seems to indicate it might be some loose file that gets installed by some of the mods in the Data folder that is not an .esp or .esm, that is causing the crashes.

 

I have the latest F4SE and ENB (just the basic ENB no presets installed yet). I also have the latest LOOT and have used it.

I'm using the Nexus Mod Manager.

Unfortunately I didn't find an easy way to make a list of all my NMM installed mods. I have lots of texture mods and some of them probably do not use plugins. Is there a relatively stress free way for me to get that list and paste it here too?

Anyway, I'm kinda stumped. If anyone spots a plugin here that might be causing the problem or has any ideas about which mods cause CTDs these days, I would really appreciate the help.

Even if it sounds crazy: (unless you have an SSD): Defragment your harddrive(s)

F04 is VERY picky when it comes to loading from harddrive. As you have so much stuff from mods, there is a huge bunch to process. If files are scattered all over your disk, the engine will stall eventually.

Thanks, but I do have an ssd. My computer is pretty up to date in other respects too (skylake i7, 16 GB ram), except my GPU is lagging a bit behind being a GTX 960, but it has 4 gigs of vram.
