MShoap13 Posted January 1, 2012 Share Posted January 1, 2012 If you have a mod that modifies the worldspace said chest is in, it could potentially cause this. There's a number of known quest breaking mods that cause quest items to not appear where they're supposed to be. All of these are plugins that modify the worldspace but don't include copied references to the NPC or container the item is supposed to be in. I have a feeling that this problem Skyrim seems to have with plugins that require vanilla references to be copied to them is going to become a big headache in the future. In the past, (Oblivion, FO3 and FO:NV) the practice of copying unmodified references into a plugin was known as a "dirty edit" and was generally frowned upon. It causes problems with multiple mods that alter similar areas and is going to be a major factor in how load orders are made once the plugin mods start rolling out in January. It's probably going to cause all kinds of issues where mods that would have been compatible for the previous games in the two series won't be compatible for Skyrim.
