Still CTD after doing several stuff + answering stuff for myself (YUP)

Hello It is me again. I try to keep it short because I accedently closed my last text. -.-

I did change the heap size with the help of this "guide" http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_NV_Mod_Conflict_Troubleshooting#Issue:_CTD_without_warning.2C_.22Out_of_Memory_error.22.2C_or_stops_responding_after_the_Main_Menu

Now I get more "normal CTD's" which means, befor when my game froze, I could not even see the task manager because the frozen game turned black after I pressed the shortcut but the game still stayed in the foreground, now I just get the message "An error has occurred" and i can close the game.

What I did so far:

  • 1. Watched Gopher's tutorials which were very informative
  • 2. Installed all the mods in the right order (all of them recommended by Gopher except I did not install Project Nevada because I use a controller
  • 3. Used the tool Loot to check my Load order. No issues
  • 4. Used NVSEdit to see if something is missing. No issues
  • 5. Changed heap size as above.
  • 6 Did this: did not help and I made sure everything was spelled correctly

After that I stumpled apon this merge mod tutorial :

This is where I am about to give up because this tutorial throws so many new words at me like papyrus and it says that I need general CreationKit knowledge which I do not have.

After that I think I now will revisit the checklist again. http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Fallout_NV_Mod_Conflict_Troubleshooting#Checklist

12. No

13. No texture Problem

14. No, I indeed did not know that and might try YUP or MMUE

15. No, what is TES4ll?

16. ?

17. Already did, no Issue

18. No

19. No

20 No, there was no update

21. No System updates aswell

22. Yes, my pc does meet the minimum requirements.

23. Yes, I did install the game in the default location and if nothing helps, I will install it somewhere else but this will be my very last step

24. No, I did not run the game in windowed mode, because when I do my game is somewhat offscreen and when I try to move it in the center, it snaps right back.

25. My pc is not overheating and I did get rid of the Dust in it 2 weaks ago.

Acutally, it helped me to write down and answer the checklist here in the Forum. The next step I do is installing YUP and the german patch for it.

If I am very lucky this will fix the crash but as of now I dont get my hopes to high up

Sorry people that I can be such a hassle and annoy with my problems a lot!

Still, I am grateful for the help you and the forum provides.

Greetings from Germany and have a nice Day or night,

DragonJarvis

EDIT: I now did install YUP in the right loadorder AND played in window mode. After an hour and a half it did crash again.

First to answer your questions about the "checklist", by number: (Note: See the reply to item 23 first!)

3. Rename the INI files to anything you choose. I usually rename by adding to the extension: from "<filename>.ini" to "<filename>.ini.old". The purpose is to be able to examine the old files for things you want to be able to replicate in the new versions of the same file.

8. ENBSeries is a "third party post-processor tool", something you would have to install yourself, so if you aren't sure then you don't have it.

10. If you didn't install either of these then they do not apply and the item can be ignored.

11. Regarding the "Special BBCode" button: It is in the Forum reply window as the third icon from the left in the top row, next to and left of the "Font" picklist field.

15. TES4LL is used to "fix up" LOD/VWD mesh files. It is used along with FNVLODGen. They are not going to cause CTDs, so for the moment you can ignore them but you should read the linked TESTG site "VWD/LOD Overview" article at some point.

16. See reply to question 15.

23. No, don't make this your last step. It should be your first step. This one thing (installing to the default location) is the most common cause of problems people have. You will otherwise spend a lot of time and effort trying other solutions, and still need to do this in the end anyway.

24. If your game is snapping back to an "off center" location, it should be correctable. Which version of Windows are you running? Is it only FNV that is "off center" or do other games have a similar problem?

The "Merge Plugins" procedure of the video you linked was prepared for Skyrim players. That game uses a different game engine than FNV. While the procedure is the same, some of the tool components (i.e. "papyrus" and "Creation Kit") and steps do not apply and can be skipped, but the subject is not something to address until after you get a stable game setup. In addition, that tool uses a "merge down" process which can break patch files, so only some files (others would say "no files") are appropriate to use with it. When you are ready to get into the subject, start with the wiki article "Merged Plugin Guidelines for Personal Use".

Thank you for the respond! Okay then, If I have the time I will install the game again and then to another location. I also fixed that snapping issue I had with the windowed mode. So it really seems to be the case that the CTD error really comes from the issue that I did install the game to the default locaion so I will do that next and try the checklist again.
