Total newbie - please help.

I'm new to PC gaming and have been enjoying your mods on Skyrim & Skyrim SE for a couple of months. I made a complete mess of Skyrim and decided to uninstall my local content via Steam, then re-install it on drve 'D' (the same as Skyrim SE and also Fallout 4) I cleared NMM of all my previous mods and tried to start again fresh.

Trouble is, many of the mods no longer affected the game. For example, I installed a UNP body replacing mod, but all the female actors and my own player character were still vanilla. Live Another Life worked, but RaceMenu would not show any of the presets I'd installed. So I cleared it all again and re-installed Skyrim again.

But the oddest thing to me - a newbie - is the my Skyrim Date folder is missing several folders I discovered this when FNIS reported that a femalebody.nif was missing and wouldn't finish installing. I looked in the data folder and it contains only four folders - interface, scripts, Strings and Video.

What have I done wrong - and please, more importantly, how do I get it working again?

In the absence of assistance, I've been delving through some forums and found Fores mention similar problem regarding FNIS install. So I checked Data folder and sure enough FNIS related files are empty. Seems I have a problem with NMM - so I'm installing by hand one by one.

You may have deleted local content, but I'd wager that your skyrim is still in the other location. I suggest doing a complete removal/install. When following the instructions below, just install in your new location on steam.

Also, for total noobs, I suggest you watch these video series. They are really helpful at getting your skyrim up again going.

Thanks for this - really helpful. I guess uninstalling - badly - from the 'C' drive and instantly placing it on 'D', left NMM with stuff hanging about messing things up!

You can tell I'm out of my depth here  - but the videos should keep me out of trouble for a while. Thank you again.

Well that didn't take too long did it?

I've followed your instructions, but my fresh install of Skyrim STILL has the saved games list from last night on the loading screen - and NMM is still installing empty folders into Skyrim's Data folder.

I'd like to install a fresh NMM at the same time, but I use it for two other games and I don't want to mess those up too.

I realised I'd watched Gopher's series a while ago. I've been a big follower for years and have wanted to have a go at this myself for just as long.

Agreed, I may have to, but I've heard unfavourable reports concerning MO.

I've just gone through the process again, this time searching for Skyrim folders and found some I'd missed before within NMM.

This time NMM said it couldn't find mod files during set-up. So it was clearly expecting to find them and holding on to remnants of mods I thought I'd deleted long ago.

Hopefully that's cured it - shouldn't be too long before I find out.

MO is great. I use it and love it. The more mods you have the better. The bad reports about it currently is that the maker of MO got hired by NMM to make their next version, so it likely won't come out with further updates, but it works great as is for the time being. As for your NMM. Just go in and delete everything in your nexus manager and where nexus installed mods to. Start over, I'm not sure what's going on there, but I feel like something is still lingering. Perhaps look up instructions on how to uninstall it completely.
