Can I make a sword emit light?

And no, I don't mean making an area glow when I stab an NPC there. I mean like the green light that surrounds you when you cast a spell like 'Starlight'.

About the sword. It has a green flame effect, sort of like the 'Sword of the Gods' in TES Nexus downloads, is there anyway to make that fade away if I haven't attacked an enemy in a while, and make the effect come back if I do?

Also, one of my swords has a normal map, and when outdoors the sword seems to have a purplish overlay, and it seems to be extremely shiny. Is there any way to tone down the shinyness?

Sorry about all these questions, I'd just like to get my sword to be perfect.

Short of using the magic light effect, either enchanted to be cast on who you're hitting, or a light ability when equipping, adding light to anything worn that is not a torch cannot be done. I'm fairly certain on this one, I've even tried attaching light nodes to the mesh... No good.

i dont think u are right with this. in the .nif file you can edit the EnvMap attached to the blade or any other part of the weapon, there are 4 parts that do the following

Ambient Color

How much the material reflects ambient light.

Diffuse Color

How much the material reflects diffuse light.

Specular Color

How much light the material reflects in a specular manner.

Emissive Color

How much light the material emits.

this is the one you want, you can change the color to pretty much anything.

Wait I am CERTAIN that OOO has light staves! I've found some - equipped them; they have a glowing top and have a 'light' effect when held (they are basically a shield).

I don't have OOO installed any longer though; perhaps with Oblivion Scrip Editor you can add this effect.

They are listed as torches, equpped as torches. There are another group of staves which act as shields, which can explain your confusion.
