DeluxeSux
Pirates are around, yes, they pirate stuff. People also buy that stuff. Penalizing legitimate buyers with chore isn't good though. I don't want to log on twice to a game I've paid for, when I want an update I'll update myself... just let me know one's available. Sue the Pirates, take it to the courts, blah blah... It's annoying to paying customers all this automated rubbish. So basically your upset because Steam makes life easier? Good lord man, just admit you wanted to start a troll thread and we can all be on our way.I can't get on the game because it's downloading something... how is that easier?! I could have put it on myself overnight... Granted I'm new to this but man, it's a gaming culture shock, and I'm not impressed. Aaah, so the issue is, the game is updating but you want to play it now, correct? Well, how is that any different from playing the game while you download the patch then applying the patch? You'll have what, three, four minutes extra of gaming time? Really, three minutes, that's what you're upset about? Amazing. You don't have a job yet do you? Have to drive to work in traffic? Waiting is part of life, it's something you're going to have to learn to deal with. Or.. You're upset because you have to download the game? Well, you don't. You can buy a hard copy of it and install it. Sir, all your arguments are invalid. I have won this debate. Please see yourself out the door and I will bid you adieu.I work. I walk I don't drive there. I have a hard copy of the game. And the wait is 6 hours. Sorry to rain on your parade, SIR. The door's this way! Follow me! Your arguments are still invalid. Anything you say from here on out means nothing. NOTHING. You have been officially branded as a troll and will be treated as such. So, because you don't agree with me I'm a troll? Or is it because you can't win you brand me a troll to try and get out of it? I'm not a troll. It's what I think and if you don't like it "thread winner" do one. Thanks. runicNomad
I cant help but to get onto a convo on steam disgust! So let us elaborate on what is the issue with steam.1. It is forced on me not just once but each time I play skyrim and guess what when the Ck is out (which is delayed for full steamworks integration) we will not be able to use the ck without steam either... hmm more forcing it on me.2. Steam collects demographics and gains profit from those demographics by selling games and target advertisements for games. This could be useful for some however we are paying them to make profit of our demographics. I want a cut at least.3. I have 0 control over where I place my game without some research and hacking and I have no ability to gain patches without them manually being updated through steam.4. Steam service running in the background consumes resources. Albeit small it still is taking processing power away. (If you are like me and want to minimalize any incoming and outgoing data or services this is horrible since I can not disable it.) Oh wait I can run it in offline mode. In offline Mode data is still sent.5. For those who want complete non connection with their gaming pc from the internet they are ass out. I for one like to isolate one system from any access to the net.6. This sets an ongoing precedent for invasion of privacy and collecting of demographics as a normal routine of purchases. Again if they would open us the consumer to a cut of this collection of data as steam makes a lot of money doing nothing but collecting and storing maybe I would be less hostile towards the system in place.7. Convoluted Convoluted and more convoluted. Skyrim came out without the CK because they want to fully integrate it with steamworks which caused many modders to create a slew of alternatives to booting and optimizing the game. Game updates were forced and caused widespread issues in the early patches. Due to this bloat and alternative path it took longer to get he game running with optimization then if we had the ck no steam and normal drm. laa patch, dragon script, skse, steam, skyrim. all running in tandem caused some major confusing which could have been alleviated with a ck upfront and no steam.8. More attention has been given making steam work properly than the game. We paid for the game and we are propping up steam freely. Ultimately we paid the shareholders then the guard (steam) then the publisher then the dev team. Hence guess what less money and time in the actual development arena. All I can say as of now is thank for crackers! This allows the game to be played without steam. And I hope when the CK comes out it is also cracked fast. Oh and guess what I did not pirate the game. Far from it. I love the TES games and always purchase them. You see it is one thing having drm and another having a demographics service monitoring my play habits and advertising to me. Some have become so absorbed into the ad world that they think it is normal. Hence future games will indeed have ads right inside of them probably pushed by a service like steam if not steam itself. It is a brilliant mechanism if you want to get good money simply pushing data around and hooking people into purchases but bottom line it takes away from privacy rights and the freedom to use what you won and purchased outright as you feel you wish to. There is a difference between being forced to patch a game and choosing when you want to patch it. Steam doesn't let us choose and the only way to have a say in that matter is to keep it offline. By the way when you've had a long day and spent some time stuck in traffic the last thing you want when you finally get home is not to be able to play the game (that worked perfectly fine the day before) because you have to wait for Steam to patch it. Waiting may be a part of life but some of us wait enough irl to simply want a hassle free gaming experience that doesn't include getting locked out of the game we've been playing the night before... Especially when the extra hassle is caused by some piece of software that brings nothing to the game. Oh God another one. Please pay attention because I will I may lose you with this. 1. Start up Steam2. Go to the Steam Library (where your games are kept)3. Right-Click on Skyrim (this works for all games in fact)4. Select Properties from the drop down menu5. Select the Update Tab6. Look closely, there will be a box that asks if you wish for Steam to keep this game up to date, turn that option off.7. Click OK There you go, now the game will only update when you want it to. Oh dear, another person who thinks that actually works. It DOESN'T, at least not for me and most of the people I have spoken to. It didn't for FONV and it doesn't for Skyrim. You have to take Steam offline or it merrily ignores the "do not update this game" command. @coreypikes, please stop using patronising terms such as "boys and girls". No-one should be installing either patches or mods without reading changelogs or examining the files first. Bethesda updates are almost always bad news in some ways for at least some users. It's going to get even worse with the Steam Workshop and mods, people are just going to download willy nilly and when their game gets borked, come on here shrieking (you don't seriously think there is going to be any support over on the Steam forums, now do you?)
