Woodpeckersam
As the title suggests... this is a request for making the Torch essential to every NPC + some enemies. I love the mod "Darker Nights" + "Dark Dungeons" but I sometimes walk the roads and bump into an NPC who is friendly... and quite literally gives me a heart attack (well not quite...) He should have a torch so I can greet him/her! Also make it that if an NPC is sneaking, the torch should be disabled... If it's dark and an NPC has no torch, obviously its difficult for them to see where they are going lol. As for enemies, things like Skeletons should carry torches. I know that these Humanoid NPC's/Enemies do not need torches 1. Khajiit's (Don't need it, but they could benefit from it, so that others can see them)2. Vampires3. Ghosts (and others... ?) I know that these Human/Humanoid NPC's/Enemies DO need torches1. Humans (Redguard/Imperials/Breton)2. Argonians3. Giants4. Goblins5. Falmers?? (and others...) OriginalkiltedFrog
I'm going to play devil's advocate here... I agree that SOME NPCs require torches. Mostly those that travel or move around at night. This would include guards, hunters, skooma dealers, caravans, etc. Enemies though, I'm not so sure about. Bandits, who could be lying in wait to ambush you, wouldn't use torches. This makes it very risky to travel at night with or without a torch. My only complaint is how they can SEE you as easily as a saber cat when you DON'T have a light source equipped. I can fully understand that if you're parading around at night wearing a full suit of Plate Armor you're going to be making a tremendous racket and they would HEAR you coming. But if you're lightly clothed, tip toeing on the roads and paths, they shouldn't be able to detect you until you fall upon them. But then, I guess that's what sneak is for. But, to the original point, I'd say on friendly travellers or unfriendly non-bandit types, torches should be placed and used by the NPC. But some should remain "hidden" at night to scare the bejezus out of you! ;) Edit: You mention Falmers as might be requiring torches. The Lore of Skyrim tells us Falmers are blind (no eyes) from living in the depths of the world for so long, and therefore torches wouldn't be of much use. I'm still a little confused as to why in some Falmer areas there are lit torches around. Edited January 2, 2012 by kilted Frog
Woodpeckersam
Good points made Kilted Frog, you explained it better than I did lol! Ah true about the Bandit camp, but how about this... IF you turn your "see light distance" settings up a bit more than the limit (i'd say 15 - 20) Have a bandit carrying a torch, and you will see this torch at a distance. When you get a little bit closer, and you are wearing heavy armour, he puts his torch away, then he looks for you... if you have your torch out, he waits until you get closer before he strikes... if you dont have ur torch out, he will look for you at your last known spot. Same with light armour/cloth/leather.. except that he will put his torch away when you a little bit more closer to him. He could do this not with just the player, but other enemies... If he dies while holding the torch, the torch should still be alight, on the floor and slowly burn out. Wanna check his corpse? Get there quickly. Bandit type enemies, should sneak around as much as possible during the night in the wilderness. But anyway those who needs torches, must have it as an essential object through the whole of Skyrim. Especially with the darker nights darker dungeons mod. Have shop keepers stock up on the torches, have NPC's torches run out, they would need to buy another torch, or scavenge for one. NPC torch burns out in the dark? They keep walking ahead in the direction they are going in until they get to a wall, and use that wall as support for seeing where they are going. Theres a lot to do if a mod like this comes out, but i'm sure it would be worth it. Edited January 5, 2012 by Woodpeckersam
WeaponX86
I'm using the Realistic Lighting mod and this is almost a must, not just at night but in dark caves. I have the creation kit installed, maybe I'll have some luck with it.
