Long loading times..

Hey guys i hope you're okay and well. i just have some question i need answers for:

- What kind of mods make your game loads slow?!

- I installed ToP (Texture Optimization Project) and i have no idea whether its working on my game or not! i have the BSA package installed is that it? or is there some kind of special installation? like an ini edit or something?

- Also what do i do to reduce the loading times? share some tips with us!

Thanks in advance :)

For me only script related mods change something about loading times. And they don't even make it load "slow", top loading times I get are around 10s. (with fo4 installed on SSD)

However, I found two significant modifiers for the loading times:

1. v-sync. For me v-sync doubles in some cases the loading time, so I use the enb frame limiter.

2. The more you play in your safe, the longer the loading times will get. Compared on of my older saves (around 100h) to a newer (~20h) and the newer save was almost 9s faster with loading times.

Everything above applies for the initial loading screen and not the "tiny ones" when loading some little cave and so on (those were normally unaffected and never took long).

In case of ToP... I only used it for a short amount of time before I started using the vivid textures. Much better quality AND performance than everything I found out there.

Biggest factor for me is the SSD, compared to my old HDD I could lower the loading times from over 30, sometimes 40s to less than half now.

Yes, what is considered slow nowdays? 10 secs or 10 minutes? Must agree with L3s7ing on the benefits of a SSD, I dont have but planning on getting. My load times are HUGE (10min+)normally but have discovered a few tricks that can speed up. The more saves you have, the more game has to go through till finds right one. When you exit the game and create a new save file.... if you will look straight down while saving that save has ALOT less graphics to load. Where you save can make or break. I have 250+ settlers, massive city, etc on Spectacle island but takes me forever to start the game from a save there, crashing even at times so I simply dont save there. I fast travel to a out of the way spot somewhere and save there so game doesnt have to load all of my Spectacle Island to run. As far as the "ToP" you mentioned... yes, it is great but better graphics come at a cost, load and frame rate. Any higher-detail background or weather mods will slow frame rate and load time but some alot while others not so much. Simple amount of mods affects load time... I run 255, lol.... I expect a slow load. I have noticed though a small helpful trick when starting the game... have FPS showing in corner and when going through start up sequence showing your garage, power armor, and such... you will notice a very low frame rate 15-30. DONT hit button to continue yet. Wait few more seconds until FPS jumps to 60. Then continue into the load screen. The game is active but still loading basics and sometimes if jump in too quick, can throw stuff outa whack on that playthrough. The black pictured load screen is where previous saves make or break on load time. Simply put... it has to either load all data for New York City or an abandoned homestead, depending on where you were when you saved.

First thing I'd recommend is making a backup of all your save files (in a seperate folder on your desktop for easy retrieval/access) and then deleting all but around 5 of your most recent ones. When FO4 first loads up the main menu, it also accesses all your present saves, sometimes this can manifest itself as jerky/stuttering main menu audio/video. Also, depending how long your playthrough is on a save increases it's file size, larger saves take longer to load obviously (Bethesda games still suffer from savebloat caused by installing/uninstalling mods during a playthrough, so always best to have a savefile on hand that is very early on in the game to test mods you use-just after exiting Vault 111 is a good spot)

All mods you use will increase load times depending on the type of mod. Generally speaking, the larger the file size of the mod/the more data the game has to access, the more it will have an effect on how long it takes to load your save (landscape/environmental retexture packs/mod will have a much more pronounced effect in this regard than say a weapon retexture mod) but really you shouldn't let loading times be a factor in deciding what mods to use.

Make sure you read the description page thoroughly of any mod you use to reduce the chance of an incorrect install; most mod authors will give precise installation instructions regarding their mods; also, check the read-me. If your unsure of the correct way to install and how to set your game up for mods, you should have a look at Gophers youtube channel for Fallout 4.

If your saves are taking between 10 seconds-4 minutes to load, that is within normal tolerance. Any longer than this and it could be indicative of something going wrong

No. crashes but load times 2 minutes. Anyone else get long load times with just the green flashing icon in right corner. I seem to getshorterloaf times if the load screen shows a graphic with game info/tips. Exiting buildings into world seems to be longest

Well, it depends on what kind of mods your using and how many. Also, your system specs (and drivers your using) may play a part in slower loading, as does having a drive that is becoming fragmented (defrag and optimization will solve that) or that is nearly full.

Likewise, any apps running in the background whilst playing FO4 could potentially have an effect.

Could you share your load order and system specs, might help us to rule a number of these out as possible causes.
