<Romance Mod> (name will be decided when the storyline is being formed)

Welcome, you must have an idea what this mod is all about just by the title so if you want to help contribute by providing us with some ideas or starting points we are open to any suggestions you can contribute. What we would really love though is that you lend us your aid in producing those ideas, we all know that the number of ideas can easily outweigh the man power available; so we want to make sure it doesn’t.

We would be happy to see anybody volunteer for the following:

Modeling & Animating

Texturing

Quest Creation

To help us out it won’t take much, just a bit of time here or there, whenever you feel you have the time.

If you are willing to be a little more dedicated than that then great, just let us know.

The purpose of this mod is to improve and expand upon the pre-existing “romantic” endeavors of

Skyrim and add a few new ones. We hope to essentially get the romances of the game to go beyond the current...

“Oh hey, I like your sword, will you marry me?”: 3

“Okay!” ^_^

We want the end result of the mod to provide several hours of additional gameplay. Since it is currently as simple as beating up a broad in a bar and asking her to marry you. Now, I think we could all agree it would be a welcome addition to those of us who wanted a bit more.

First idea:

(This is inspired by Ruintail’s Tale (Oblivion) to which I give credit for this idea)

A chance encounter with the man/woman that you fall in love with, maybe you're delving into a dungeon, and you happen upon a creature of some sort attacking a man or woman. Upon saving this hapless person they are so very grateful and indebted to you that they wish to travel with you until they feel their debt has been paid. In the process of your travels, you experience so much together sitting by campfire after campfire at the end of your long days that another fire begins to provide you its warmth until the two of you realize what you’re beginning to feel is love. You two love birds start to grow fond of each other little by little until finally all it takes is one little chunk of metal to throw the two of you straight into the deep-end. The Amulet of Mara is all it takes at this point, the normal means of marriage, and that will give the player the option to marry this companion.

The companion will of course be given some sort of colorful past in which they had been happily married. Then one night woke up to a dagger hovering over their chest, but with a bit of adrenaline and quick reflexes turned the tables on the would-be assassin to learn their spouse was behind this attack, so instead kill both the assassin and spouse, thus forcing them to flee the province to Skyrim.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Second idea:

Male

---------

Upon entering a city for the first time (Riften) you come across a woman being attacked by a thug, however upon killing the thug you learn they were with The Dark Brotherhood and now you have to run because The Brotherhood wants to send you both to the void. Then the story starts to develop from that moment forward, as you escape the hand of the brotherhood, as you fight for your lives, growing ever closer. Eventually the path will lead to the ultimate betrayal or the destruction of the Brotherhood.

Female

---------

Need an idea for the female player. (Perhaps you are the assassin, but you decide to let the poor bastard live because he tickles your fancy.)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Third idea:

This is just a starting point so input will be appreciated. There is an NPC put under a curse by a ‘misunderstood’ wizard. Your role is to work towards lifting this curse, and in the process of doing so you learn more about why the so-called mean spirited wizard placed the curse on the ‘helpless’ pussy cat. This is one where both parties are love interests.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Fourth idea:

Since we've werewolves in Skyrim, a mod could be based on that. Say, the NPC was afflicted by the disease and the trauma of such accident left them in the state of short-term memory loss. They're unaware of this and if a player discovers it when they transform, they may still be in denial of it. Could potentially lead to very romantic and fuzzy talks of acceptance and such.

<Alternate>

You could always have the npc werewolf caught by the silver hands! Or locked up in a cage somewhere. Not sure if using the actual silver hands is a good idea. Would we cure him/her first? Or would there be lots of running around trying to find a rampant werewolf because they asked the player to look after them? Oh that could be fun! I did that drinking challenge quest woke up at the temp of the beauty shrine and had to figure out what happened. That was awesome and occasional npc will come up to me and say random things about that night.

<Alternate>

Player is walking through one of the cities (Faulkreach) and comes across the body of a dead man with a trail of blood leading away from him into the woods. Upon following the trail (for quite some time) the player happens upon a man or woman sitting at a barren campsite, sobbing. When you ask them what is wrong they scream at you to get away…

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Fifth idea:

You find a wandering bard and she’s really upset because some bandits stole her grandmother lute. You agree to help her out because she’s so forlorn and it’s her only connection to her family and her only lively hood.

She had no way of repaying you but can use restoration magic and will come with you until she feels her debt is paid.

After seeing you in action she asks another favor. Help her retrieve her grandparent’s journal… problem she doesn’t really know exactly where it is but there is a sort clue thing. Follow clues to a cave with a songish name find the journal with some awesome songs she’ll earn more by singing

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sixth Idea:

you are on your way to Markarth (as there are already a lot of Thalmor there and that city is so intriguing you are bound to run into him again he'd be stationed at a bar sometimes or near Ondolemar and the Jarl) when you see an official looking thalmor on the same path. this triggers an overpowering attack obviously aimed at you fight as long as possible and the thalmor is forced to fight beside you. when your health is really low it triggers a blackout like in the bigining of the game. when you come around at the Markarth stables, everything is blurry you see this thalmor face in and out of focus and he moves out of vision, you hear voices... disapproving voices not all mer.

He'll be defending his honor, there must be some way to link faction speech so he'd say the appropriate things for female players it'll be easy (who doesn't want to save a damsel in distress) but it would be nice if he uses other aspects to justify saving you. the other npc use the other faction information like "She's a stormcloak!" "Ondolemar won't be pleased" "we have a duty to get rid of talos worshipers" "I think she has fur growing out of her ears" "what if we need to kill her later?"

Then you fall back asleep and wake up in the stable while the guys who sell horse and war dogs ask you to leave. you leave and when you run into him next maybe you over hear him talking about home and how comfortless Markarth is. you go up to him and say "you're the guy who saved me." He'll be non comital and then when you insist he'll say, "yes, I did. So you owe me. While that would entitle me to the rest of your life, but I'll settle for a glass of wine." thus the start of some elaborate quests, eventually some together and obviously you'll have some different dialogue options and responses.

The last quest you do together would probably go something like this:

He tells you that there has been a shipwreck of the coast of solitude, carrying a supply shipment from his Mother Land, but the Thalmor Officials are to busy to investigate so he wants the two of you to o check it out. After investigating you learn that a group of bandits have caused the shipwreck and upon defeating them he invites you back to the Thalmor headquarters in solitude to rest up and heal your wounds. While there, He says, "That brute almost killed me. I almost died out there." He confesses that he's grown tired of working for the Thalmor all his life. He's been thinking about quitting, and finding a nice refined spouse to settle down with and raise children. He misses the fine foods and comforts of having a home. A glass of Alinor's finest wine and some of his homeland's food would raise his spirits, and over diner, (based on responses from you) decides that he doesn’t want to work for the thalmor anymore and just wants to settle down. You then get the opportunity to romance him and ask him to marry you.

Of course, we can change up the sexes if your character is male. Maybe have two separate releases, one male, one female.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Seventh Idea:

While in a town you over hear a conversation of how a sickly man is trying to find someone to escort his daughter/son to Solitude to see the city of her birth one last time as he is no longer fit to travel with and protect him/her. You go to the location you hear them speak about and talk to the old man. He says that he is willing to pay well to give his daughter/son the possibly last gift he can in his life. Upon accepting the quest you begin your travels (fast travel possibly disabled if possible.) during which she berrates your aggressive demeanor and wants no part in the slaughter of any man or animal you come across. Presenting the challenge of trying to appease to him/her by not killing anything. As you approach the city, she will want to rest at dragon bridge or possibly somwhere else. During your stay at the inn she/he tells you more about her/his father and about her time in solitude and what she/he remembers. Depending on the outcome of the choices made during the conversation upon your arrival to solitude she/he will either take off, or not want to leave your side. Another possible outcome may be the news of her fathers untimely death ultimately meaning she/he would rather return to her father leaving you the choice of demanding you finish the journey or taking him/her back.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Eighth idea:

The player would encounter a strange tomb. As they go through the cave they come across an abandoned encampment with a Journal, detailing that the tomb belongs to a famous scholar who studied the Dwemer ruins. The player also learns that the expedition team went in deeper only a couple days ago. When the player delves deeper he/she encounters a trap room that leaks a poisonous gas, causing the player to loose consciousness.

During the fade to black the player hears distant voices and sounds. After a few seconds they find themselves come to, finding a female explorer tending to you on a sleeping bag. Through dialogue you learn that the lady was leading the expedition but the whole team got trapped partway in the tomb. Only three people are left and by a stroke of luck, they managed to save you from the poison chamber. She feeds you some food and you get some time to know her before your character has to sleep again. In the midst of the second blackout you hear traces of an argument between the female explorer and one of the NPC's about feeding you when they are running out of food. She wakes you up again with her nearly crying as she breaks the news to you that they are on their last days worth of food supplies and they can't get past a certain point in the tomb (the other two NPC's died trying). You have no choice but to promise her that you will help get her out of the tomb. She then gives you her last potion she made to fight the poison gas which by luck allows you to get up.

You then help the female explorer get out of the tomb with her acting as your temporary companion. After navigating through trapped rooms you encounter not only frostbite spiders but a room with "rebuilt" Dwemer spheres. After taking the spheres out the lady explorer, impressed by your combat, asks about your past (showing that she wants to know about you). Afterwards you finally manage to get to the end of the tomb where you find the famous scholar's book on Dwemer studies and a mechanical lift that takes both of you to the exit.

After getting out of the dungeon the female explorer will thank you for saving her life. She will also ask if she could accompany you some more (which through the dialogue she is hinting that she's fallen for you). The player then has a choice to either pursue the romance some more (through a date and eventual marriage), make her into a normal companion (with the option to romance still open), or to send her off on her own with the book.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the idea outweighs our man power we will hold a vote, currently that looks to be around 10.
Due to the scale of this mod, anyone who can provide insight, advice, or just anything helpful at all will be much appreciated and given rightfull credit.
This sounds like a great mod. I have an idea for one of the romances. In the Thalmor Headquarters of Solitude (that's currently empty) you can meet a Thalmor officer, and hear him mention how he misses the fine cuisine of his homeland, and how bland the food is in Skyrim. He mentions a shipment of fine wines and spices from Alinor was lost on its way to Skyrim and the Thalmor have been too busy to investigate. You investigate the ship and find it has crashed and is full of pirates (any of the already existing ships could be used for this part of the mod). After slaying the pirates you find the chest of rare wines and Altmeri spices. When you return, the grateful Thalmor officer asks you to join him for dinner. You mention how fond you are of fine cuisine as well. During the dinner he notices your amulet of Mara, and the marriage option becomes a possibility during the conversation.
Hope you like my idea.
If you'd like to use it, I'd be happy to write the dialog for you.
So then is that to say the dinner acts as a long dialogue in which you must sweet talk the ring onto their finger?
Yes. You'd have to say the right things during the conversation. The Thalmor official has refined tastes and wants a woman with similar tastes. The player's replies should reflect that. For instance when he asks what you like to drink, and if the player says, "Nothing in life is better than Skyrim's mead, straight from the bottle." that would not go over as well as saying, "I simply love the taste and subtle aroma of Altmeri wines."
You would also have to be convince him that you are from a good bloodline (meaning an Altmer), or that you are at least an important person. For instance, if you know you are the dragonborn that will appear as an option to say to him. If you haven't found out you're dragonborn yet, then perhaps being the archmage or some other accomplishment would impress him.
@ Drakkenfan sounds interesting, but maybe you could give us a bit more of your idea.
How do you meet this Altmer and why does the player find themselves attracted to them?
It sounds like a great questline but you've got to make the player want to marry your altmer? what's his history? Maybe he's an old war veterine (it sounds like that would fit in with the missing home senerio.)
Is he a potential follower... I think it's fine if he's not. Some people prefer have stay at home spouse and there could be some extra after marriage questline to keep it interesting.
Any character you write should be romanceable by either gender PC.
I like your idea. I'm sure people will develop companion mods with romance components, but a single mod specifically designed to add several romances would be quite welcome. I'd play it.
This does indeed sound like an interesting idea, i have always lurked the modding forums since morrowind, but never actively wanted to get involved so hell, why not start here.
I have no modding experience with TES games though allot in source so i'm sure once the creation kit comes out and i start tinkering i will figure it out fast enough. Though mainly i am interested in writing. I have been writing for a long time, though never had any formal education and would love to be given a shot at this atleast assuming TESCK turns out to be more complicated then i thought and i can't handle it xD
I am willing to put time in, though i do spend time playing and streaming competitively and thus may not be able to constantly work on it since with work that ties up allot of time. but most weekends and usually week nights i have pretty open.
I also thought about the broken marriage system in Skyrim. I kinda hoped that you would meet your partner during a quest, something like this for example:
A village gets constantly threatened by a Necromancer who lives in a nearby tower and abuses the villagers as guinea pigs for his experiments. Since Skyrim is at war and the village is in a very remote area no one sends them help and that's where you come into the story.
The chief's daughter wants to bring down the Necromancer herself but her father will have none of it since he is worried about her well being even though she is a capable huntress, so he sends you to do the task and promises a big reward. Before you enter the tower the chief's daughter catches up to you and tells you that is the village's responsibility and you shouldn't put your life on the line, but she is willing to team up with you. Well the story could go on in any direction from this point and of course you could marry her in the end even live in the village.
