Follower Command?

Is there a way to tell your follower to use ranged versus melee and vice versa, either through a mod, console command, or even an ingame way that I do not know of.

On a second note, I have heard that if you give a follower an arrow, lets say a elven arrow, that single arrow will be infinite and they will always use an elven arrow, I have tried this with no results, and advice?

The only way to make a follower use the fighting style you want is to either:

Make sure their most powerful weapon is the one you want them to use, and make sure it is not enchanted.

-or-

Use that fighting style yourself. Usually if you range, they will range, etc.

And, yes, with some exceptions, the followers will use the most powerful arrows you give them, and they will not run out. You can pick the arrows off the ground or from bodies, though. It is a limited but effective way to spam more powerful arrows. Takes a long time, though. I have been using The Huntress as a follower for most of my game, and in 10 hours of gameplay since finishing the Companion questline I have "duped" a daedric arrow to about 50.

Another thing I have not tried (but will) would be to reverse-pickpocket a deadric arrow into the Solitude guard who constantly spams steel arrows into the target in Solitude. Theoretically he should start using the more powerful arrows and will start shooting those into the target.

That's what I thought. I am also using Aela the Huntress, and I gave her a glass mace I found so on the rare occasion that someone runs up on us she wont have to use a iron dagger, she has a Dwarven Bow that does 10 Frost Damage (Random hand me down), you mentioned something about them being enchanted? What does that affect?

And with the arrow thing, I gave her a single elven arrow, and she just uses it up, how do I make her use a infinite supply of them?
