Knights of the Nine Hangup

I finshed the main Oblivion Quest with Shivering Isles enabled, so I could use the Golden Saints Companions. I have a bunch of other mods enabled also. I figured the next thing would be to start up Knights of the Nine, but when I activated the .esp for it and tried to load my savegame with 3 companions, I got the "Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Nothing I try seems to work - as a result I cannot start Knights of the Nine, which seems a shame since I got it with the GOTY edition.

Does anyone know of this bug and a fix for it?

Thanks.

Several ideas

First, Bethesda intended you to do the KTON before SI so something may be conflicting there. I suspect it might be the Golden Saint companion mod. I don't use that one so I can't be much help there.

Try disabling that one and maybe some others and see if it starts.

I had the same problem when I moved a companion mod esm to after oblivion.esm in my load order - the official rule is that Oblivion.esm must load first - evidentially they forgot to tell that to the CM companions. I fixed this with Wrye Bash.

I had many problems with the official horse armor mod. I finally removed it from my game. One problem is Shadowmere disappearing from the game. Another was many CTDs while it was running.

If these suggestions don't help, give us more info on your mods - such as load order (you need something like OBMM for true load order), are you using OBMM, OBSE or any other 'helper' programs? This doesn't sound like a hardware problem, but maybe a breakdown of your system just in case someone may see some problem there.

Thanks for the input, guys. I found the answer in one of the other forums - you have to load KOTN after Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. I moved the Knights.esp file down in Load order to after OOO and it worked fine. I did not have that problem with Shivering Isles - maybe the SI patch fixed the load order bug.

Anyway, thanks again.
