Crash Early in game

Half Dragon

I need help! I just bought a new acer laptop and installed oblivion . I go through the character creation, go and then once I go through the class picking part and try to go down into the sewer, It crashes right after loading. So then I looked around here for help, and I downloaded a New Beginning but that didn't even function. Then I downloaded Role-Playing Oblivion from here.(Which rocks!) But then once I get into, ex. the area, I can't get out or else it crashes too! :wallbash: :wallbash:

Here are my specs.

Geforce 7000m

1 GB ram

Vista home Premium

AMD TK-55 (1.8 X2)

Dolby digital sound

Ps. the sound is a bit distorted when I play Oblivion too, propobly just the driver though. :thanks:

I am pretty sure vista is not your problem. I tried it out and It worked fine. I think the problem is your laptop. That thing sounds like it can barely run vista well. I mean, 1 GB of ram? Also, laptops are notoriously unable to run high powered games; really only the ones that are made for it will do (i.e. Alienware). The sewer space is pretty big, and so maybe the laptop simply can't handle it, or the fans can't keep it cool enough, so it aborts the game to keep a black hole from forming. I would suggest you run Oblivion on a more qualified computer, like a desktop with big fans, 2 Gb of RAM (more for Vista), and a GeForce 8800 of some type. Don't do 9 series yet, they presently cost too much more for a little more preformance.

:thanks: That might help, I've just been hearing a load of stuff about my video card, but I can't use oldblivion because I have the GOTY edition. If I ever have money, I will up the RAM and the videocard. Ps. How do I add a laptop videocard, cause I opened my laptop once and didn't see uch room in there! Thanks for the input!!!

On laptops the video is not a separate card but built into the motherboard. Unfortunately you are probably stuck with what you have. However, the ram might help.

bben is right. When you buy a laptop, wou are pretty much stuck with the stuff you got in there. RAM is one of the few things you can occassionally change; it's subject to how the manufacturers built your particular machine. All-in-all, if you could find a desktop of any caliber, ramp up the innards, and then install it there, you will save time / money / stress over trying to figure out how to give your Acer the edge to run the GotY.
