Is it possible to lower your base level?

You could just open the console and type in commands such as:

player.setlevel 1 - Sets player level to 1.

player.remove perk <perk ID here> - Removes requested perk from player.

player.setav skill <skill name here> <amount here> - Sets selected skill to amount desired.

Hmmm.... I tried to lower my level from 40 to 30 and my game won't load. Is there a catch in that setlevel command?

EDIT:

It seems to work. I lowered my level to 16, but when I try to check my skills I suddenly leveled up (perhaps I haven't leveled up for those two levels) to 18. While previously I would only encounter master level enemies, I try to find a completely new fort and I encounter low leveled novice and apprentice enemies, and the save will load. Thanks!

It's up to you, but if you are going to start playing a different style and start a new leveling session, it may be better to start a new game. It's been the experience of many who logged over 100+ hours with one character to get random CTDs because of savegame bloating.

IDK, my theory is that each visited dungeon adds to the save game, and the "reset" does not necessarily remove the dungeon from the save data: the dungeon is still there, and will be reset the next time you enter said dungeon, at which point the dungeon data in the save game is simply overwritten with the new dungeon data, thus not doing anything

That blabber above boils down to that eventually the new character will reach the same point, and will experience random CTDs too. Might as well do what I can with what I have for now ;)

When you say 'resest' do you mean the console commands that lower your character's level? Each new character has its own save file, and so resets everything across the board.

But yeah, continue playing from the current game if you want continuity. Perhaps you won't even get CTDs.

No, I'm talking about the "dungeon reset" feature (where a dungeon resets every 30 in-game days)

So, since I can't really reduce my savegame, might as well use it until it breaks ;)

Except a good female savegame is available, I'll start a new game right away :P

It's not a full reset, it just respawns. From UESP:

"The level of a given dungeon is fixed the first time you enter it. Therefore, places that you enter early in the game will always contain relatively weak enemies, even if you return to the same dungeon at the end of the game."
