thekid345
Does anyone think that mabye, just maybe they will make a TES movie? I think it would be cool for redguard but not for any of the freeroam games. I doubt they will make one though.....
Nineteen99
I think it would be really difficult to make a movie out of any RPG, especially for those that let you decide the ending of the game. The movie people would have to decide cannonical and non-cannonical point to the storyline. Then some fans would get upset because "That's not supposed to happen," blah, blah, blah. In fact, the only movie that I know of that was based on a video game is Lara Croft Tomb Raider...
freddycashmercury
Actually, there have been a few movies based on video games. Double Dragon, all the Resident Evil ones, and (unless I'm mistaken) Silent Hill. There are probably more, but I can't think of them right now. xenxander
You forgot Street fighter and mortal kombat and a few other less known ones... but all in all, most movies based on games flop. the one exception was really the "first" mortal kombat movie; if you watch "annialation" you'll almost tear your eyes out of your sockets - yeah it's that bad *shakes head* but the first was great for what they had to wrok with and stuck pretty close to the story. street fighter was just a poorly made cash-op with some stale comedy (the anime movie of street fighter was far better - not talking about the series here) But as for Silent Hill and resident evil - they took liberties. Which is fine really, I just wish they had kept the main hero a male instead of making it a woman (shrugs). And Redisent Evil: Extinction is a very poor ending to that trilogy. Progressively the movies rate best to worst: 1, 2, 3.

People just don't know about them because they all suck, with the exception of Silent Hill. It wasn't nearly as good as the game, and had many lore flaws, but it was still a good movie. Doom wasn't too bad, either. Here's a link of all the movies based on games if anyone's interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films..._on_video_games Will TES become a movie? No, not in the foreseeable future. Bethesda doesn't seem like the type. Also, like Nineteen99 said, rpgs typically aren't the best for that sort of thing because of the open-endedness. freddycashmercury
That's the thing, games based on movies fail the same way the majority of movies based on books fail. There's simply no way to compress all the events of a long game/book into a two hour period. (Thanks for the other movies, by the way. I don't know how they slipped my mind.) xenxander
Also most games based on movies fail too. they are just cash-outs and merchandising for the movie. Honestly when my friend's brother was playing the first Spiderman game on the PS2 I watched for a bit but just shrugged.yeah it was visually impressive but it just wasn't as 'amazing' as he was making it out to be. I think I can say though, that although not 100%, the Hair potter movies aren't so bad a representation of the books, just take it at face value. Same with a less-known movie called "Enemy Mine". A good book that is only about 220 pages long - both are fairly good and the movie had a more honorforic ending, while the actualy end chapters of Enemy Mine - the book, were better for character development. There's simply no way to compress all the events of a long game/book into a two hour period. I can't agree with that logic, largely because many movies based on books have shown to prove both popular and profitable, The Bourne movies, the Silence of the Lambs, I Am Legend, many Shakesperian based movies, Beowulf, Children of Men, Spider-man (comic book, w/e), No Country for Old Men, etc and MANY more. I think you'll see waaaay too many succesful movies come from books. Actually it's one of my main gripes about the lack of originality coming out of Hollywood. :pinch: Success will most likely lie in the quality of the story itself and it's prevalence in the culture. Remember, even the laughably bad Street Fighter was considered a hit when it was released. Though usually not to fans of the original game. As for an TES movie? Who knows? I could see it. Silent Hill came out pretty well because movies staff worked closely with the game developers to provide a plausible experience pleasing to both gamers and moviegoers. Of course this is the exception among a sea of Bloodraynes, House of the Deads, and Super Mario Bros. Don't tell my you forgot Super Mario Bros? The likelihood's low, but I think they could definitely make a pleasant experience as long as production involves development staff. However, they're too smart to base it on any one of their games. If we do see one come to fruition, it'll probably depict an original adventure, set in the backdrop of recent or past events. Though I'd personally love to see the Seige of Kvatch done with actual armies of Daedra. (That Savlian Matius was one of my favorites and pretty believeable "My home-- My goddam home!" sweet voice acting there  )
ninja_lord666
...and Super Mario Bros. Don't tell my you forgot Super Mario Bros? :thumbsup:Oh man, that was awful. I just wish I could get go back in time and prevent myself from ever renting it.

I refuse to watch the Bourne Ultimatum, for example, because the first two movies sucked compared to the books. In my opinion anyways. I didn't mean they weren't popular, just that the majority of fans would dislike it, for the reasons Nineteen99 pointed out. "That's not lore, that happened the wrong way", etc.
