ninja_lord666
Hey Ninja I’ve agreed with everything you’ve written about the movie & the Chronicles Of Narnia, but I think they still have the right to state their opinion. I don’t want anyone to get mad at me for this OK, but sometimes you just have to allow people to be wrong without tearing into them. BTW What about a made for TV Movie? Like I mentioned earlier, air it on the SciFi channel or something like that.I tried being nice. I made about two (possibly even three) posts just simply explaining that he's wrong; no anger. However, he still won't get it! This is one of my pet peeves:Fantasy =/= Science Fiction! You can combine them, but they are not inherently same. They are two distinctly different genres. TES does not belong on the SciFi channel. As for the idea (excluding SciFi), I still highly, highly doubt it'll happen. I'm willing to bet that Bethesda will continue making TES as games and only games. Another example of a bad video game to movie is the Final Fantasy 7 movie. As Yahtzee said, FF (and jrpgs in general) are essentially the same as watching a random anime movie while stopping every five minutes to fiddle around with the remote...and eat some s***. Yet, despite FF being just that, it still made a horrible movie. Now just imagine TES becoming a move. The FF series focuses almost exclusively on the story (hence the horrible gameplay) which is what movies care about. TES focuses primarily on the gameplay aspect which is completely useless to a movie. I may hate FF, but I will commend it on it's story. That's the one good thing it has. Now, if a video game with such a great story made such a bad movie, how would TES turn out?
Vagrant0
The problem with all game based movies is they they usually pull too heavily from the original source. While this might seem like a good idea, it usually works against the movie actually being good. Fans of the series are disappointed with how poorly everything is done, non-fans just ignore it as another crappy rip-off. The only good instances of movies based off games have been ones in which the movie actually stands on its own, without any knowledge of the game, like Tombraider. Unfortunately, this means putting some importance on the actual writing... Which in the case of many, (Super Mario Brothers, Mortal Combat, Doom, ect.) is another place where things die fast. The key is to be able to borrow the concepts outlined in the series, but use them in a way that would actually be entertaining to the average viewer. Essentially, any sort of TES based movie would probably suck since any sort of "good" writing wouldn't need to borrow from a game series to make their story work. And as the case has often been with movies of games, because the movie sucked so bad, interest in the game tends to drop in fear of being associated with that horrible movie attempt. The fact that most movie games tend to be geared toward children doesn't help things. Besides the point, there really isn't much acknowledgement of the TES series among the average person, so any movie would end up being their initial experience. Thanodai
Nothing good can come of a TES movie. Just look at Hollywood's track record. And D&D was a movie I wish to wholeheartedly forget. -T-
Kresselack
Like I said, why not make a movie about the stories in the books? They can just release the movie, and not say it is even based off of the game. They dont have to do the same things the producers did with DOOM, Super Mario Brothers, Mortal Kombat, etc.
freddycashmercury
Honetly, that sounds like a much better idea than a TES movie. I'd love to see movies made out of several of the books.

The only difference between the mainquest (or other quest) and the books is that the quest is interactive. That's it. It's still a story, except you are the main character, or supporting character in the case of the mainquest... :glare: The books won't work, especially since most don't even give enough to base a movie off of. Let's go and look at The Locked Room, for example. A summary of the story:A girl is at a lockpicking school, but gets reprimanded for picking them too slowly by getting locked in a room with a crate which contains a sleeping vampire. She manages to unlock it in time. She comes back later with a new invention: an 'unpickable' lock. She convinces her teacher to install it on the vampire room door and lock her teacher in there. He tries to pick the lock, but fails. He continues to fail, even after throughoutly examining the lock. Since he is unable to escape in time, the vampire kills him. That would be, at most, 30 minutes, and that's with exaggeration.
freddycashmercury
You're probably right, Ninja, but you could easily add in content to the movie and make it longer. Such as, how the girl came to the school, does she have any friends, what is her backstory, how succesful has she been in other classes, etc. I mean, a good writer could easily get another hour out of just that. Kresselack
Im not saying choose some random book, or choose one that is really short. The examples I gave earlier had actual volumes, and took a while to read. If it were in a movie, there would be extra scense, such as the introduction, basic dialogue, travelling scenes, and of course added dialogue. The books are different than the game. They have a defined plot which starts from point A and ends at point B. The game has a plot, or sub plots, which can be altered by the player. You can't jus stretch out something like that. Even with a backstory the size of Forrest Gump's, you'd have a very hard time keeping people interested. The event itself isn't really noteworthy. Sounds more like some half-assed Tales from the Crypt rip-off than anything.
freddycashmercury
Eh, I concede the point. Forget I ever mentioned it.
