Hallowynn
basically, the first few weeks or so I got skyrim, the game ran pretty well with some ini tweaks. no stuttering, no fps drops, none of that. after taking a break from skyrim for about a week, game starts to lag after a few minutes of playing, dropping to 50-45 fps in locations id usually get 60 fps in. i tried with my mods disabled, im using project optimization, skyrim performance plus pine needles fx, and the unofficial patch legendary edition. nothings running in the background (besides steam). i dont know what would cause this. any help would be appreciated, thanks
snelss0
If you are using windows 10, your XBOX DVR can interfere. If you have it, go to your Xbox app and deactivate. I never even used the stupid app and it was messing with mine.

szorx
Your GPU is overheating. When you play for a couple of minutes, it is fine but soon the gpu temp start to go up and that is why you are getting low fps and fps spikes. In order to fix this, you should open your case and clean it. This is not a skyrim software problem, most likely hardware you can say. You can even check your gpu temperature by gpu-z.If it is a laptop, place it over something cold surface.

szorx
Laptop is always vulnerable to overheating and you can't fix it. Just put it over floor instead of carpet or something a bit colder. Secondly, make sure you have cleaned the panel of heat sinks of laptops. Sometimes dust is stuck between them and it will block the flow of air, i also had these problems playing 1080p movies on laptops and some gaming.I honestly never recommend laptop for gaming, you can't fix aside from these simple tips. Errol001
Check at local computer shop, they may have cooling plate for your laptop model. It is basically a large plate of alloy with fans fitted to blow air on base of laptop. Built for gaming.
