choyun1
Hello everyone, I am getting very low fps on my New Vegas install (~5-10 according to fraps) and I was wondering if anybody could help me out. Here's my comp specs:Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitAMD Phenom II processor (4 CPUs), ~3.4 Ghz4096 MB RAMGeFOrce GTX 560 Ti (~2785 MB)1920 x 1080 resolution I'm also running quite a few mods:All the DLCsProject Nevada (all components)Nevada SkiesPoco Bueno detailed texture modElectro-CityWeapons Mod ExpansionMore perks/traitsEssential Visual EnhancementsUnified HuD project (aHUD, iHUD, adv recon, radar HUD, primary needs)Willow NPC modNew Vegas Bounties 1 and 2Cipcis Automatic Save Manager I installed them mostly following Gopher's instructions on YouTube. Here's the issue in more detail: At the beginning of the game, the game runs perfectly fine at 30 fps. The game steadily loses performance until after about 3 hours of playing, it bottoms out at about 10 fps. I've started new games a number of times with different mods installed, and the same thing happens. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether I run at Ultra, High, or Medium graphics settings (also tried lowering resolution; didn't help). Saving, loading, and restarting does not help at all once the fps tanks. There's no issue with stability once I disabled auto-save features. So far I've tried the fnv4GB fix, Fake Full Screen, NV Stutter remover, and d3d9.dll fix, none of which helped. I have latest updates for everything and latest drivers. After 3 days of researching the web and my settings, I'm completely stumped. Maybe one of the mods listed above has known memory leak issues? Any ideas would be very much appreciated! :D
adman85
Try the mod Purge Cell Buffers. It cleans out unused references every 10 minutes or so to help stop leaks from slowly causing a CTD. Well in theory it should be exactly what you are looking for.
Jeoshua
That or you need more cooling on your video card. Actually I ran across the situation that the heat comming off the video card slowly popped the plug out on the fan. I wouldn't get more than 9 frames until I discovered the fan wasn't turning at all. Plugging it back in worked, but I play with the side of the computer off. It doubles as a heater in the wintertime
choyun1
I forgot to mention that the video card came overclocked. Specifically: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130610 I don't think cooling is the issue. The temperature never rises over 40 C and the fans seem to be working. Also, the game wouldn't have such low fps right when I start playing a saved game if overheating were the issue, right? Purge cell buffer seems like it might work. But it wouldn't do any good for a saved game right? I'd have to start a new one? The most frustrating thing is I can't test things immediately; I have to play a newly started game for an hour or so before the symptoms start to show. >_<;
choyun1
Some further info: The game uses ~600 MB of memory while running (according to task manager) and the physical memory usage never exceeds 2.5 GB. Likewise, CPU usage never goes above 60% or so. The save files are ~6 MB, which seems too small to be a problem.
adman85
I think PCB will start working on any save you load, I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure. It probably wont help directly with FPS, but it should stop the time related crashes at least.

I too have been searching for an answer to the exact same problem. I've now started 3 separate games all ending when it becomes unplayable at 8-10 fps after a few hours. I have a very similar setup, and I just copy/pasted and minor edited a lot of your initial post because our situations are THAT similar. I may try it but I don't see how it would help as I believe the .dll fix was prevalent when FNV first came out and was related to NPC faces. I do use the fnv4GB fix, Fake Full Screen and NV Stutter remover and am getting 40-50 fps outdoors when I first start a new game. Then, as the OP, as I continue to play the fps steadily comes down until after a few hours I'm at 8-10 fps. Please keep me updated OP if you find a fix and I will do the same! choyun1
Alright, solved kind of. Enough for me anyways. I de-activated all mods and re-installed only the following: All DLC'sDarnified UI (I had this before if I didn't mention it)Cipcis' Automatic Save ManagerWillow Companion ModMore Perks (and all the patches for DLC's)Project Nevada (and DLC support)Purge Cell Buffer I am currently in 2-3 hours or so and I have no degradation of performance whatsoever on ultra high settings. I'm still running the 4gb RAM and Fake Fullscreen. Mainly, I am missing New Vegas Bounties, Nevada Skies, Poco Bueno Texture pack, and Weapon Mods Expanded. I guess my system did not like one of those mods.

Have you tried adding mods back? edit: if it's not too much trouble, could you post your mod order before and after you fixed your problem? I guess my system did not like one of those mods. Well now, you could try reactivating each mod one by one in FOMM to see which (if any one in particular) is the direct cause. FOMM will allow you to deactivate them too so you shouldn't have to reinstall if it does happen again. With such a small mod list, I don't think that's the problem (i start getting problems around the 100 mod mark, and I'm currently playing with around 80 mods). It may just be one mod causing leaks for you, it would suck to have to miss out on all these awesome mods because of one. To be honest, I have removed all weather mods currently. As awesome as they are, and no matter how much I thought that I couldn't go back to vanilla weather, without them, I have had a decent increase in performance and a whole lot less CTD. EDIT; I just noticed EVE in your original list too, this is another that I begrudgingly removed (it's so awesome I know) because I had graphic related crashes, I'm sure that's not the problem for you but slow leak + boosted textures in combat (one of the crashiest times) will eventually cause a CTD.
