Noob follows guides, makes good on load order...still needs help...

Hey guys/gals/binary independent, how's it going? Let me first prefix this by letting you all know that I'm extremely new to all of this (pc included) I'm 42 years old, and I've owned my very first computer for ~8 months now. My nephew talked me into, and helped with, building one. I had been on console until then, and never really had need for a pc so didn't have one. So...please...be gentle =P .

That doesn't mean I'm stupid. Simply inexperienced. I learn pretty fast if you want to help teach me.

So after much toil and trouble, trial and error, and the patience grinding process of resorting load orders, moving things around, and constantly just loading up a save long enough to make sure it's even going to run, let alone run properly. It's not easy enjoying these wonderful works, but it's definitely worth the time, trouble, and effort. So I followed a few guides, and eventually really ended up, kind of, structuring my load order based on Gambit's load order in the 5th post of the http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2228/? (<- Armorsmith Extended) comment section.

FINALLY...my game loads, looks amazing, and runs pretty good for the most part (5 hours of straight gameplay with no CTD's). I'm just getting this random "shuddering" effect (the best way I can describe this is to say think of one of those old flip through cartoon books that you fanned the pages and the cartoon played out, or an old Charlie Chaplin movie) I'm guessing this is my fps dropping, but I'm not sure, and I'm wondering if anyone can help with resolving this. Now, I understand that with the amount of mods that I have installed (~230 active mods, 174 active plugins) that there's going to be a chance of performance hit, but the game runs perfectly...for the most part. So, I'm thinking that my load order is still a bit off, and I realize that this is probably a dumb idea, but I'm going to try anyway... I'm wondering if you guys could maybe give me some advice on tweaking it.

First, my rig stats...

GTX760 2GB

12GB RAM

AMD 8120FX CPU

OS is on a fairly old HDD, but game runs from a 90GB SSD (could be part of the problem?)

Windows 10 Home

Mod Organizer 2.0.8

Next let me tell you that I followed this tutorial on setup, and installed everything EXCEPT a ReShade/ENB preset (that is to say all of the recommended tools, resources, and ini tweaks. Everything down to the ModWiki Core recommendations, I found his mod order to be a bit outdated in places, and already had a good idea of what I wanted to use, but I did take a few ideas from him, and Gambit)...

http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Gernash/MODWiki#Base_Mods

I just have no clue how to use any of those tools that I installed, and finding good, informative videos on how to use them is futile at best. So, here's my load order, as it sits, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Like I said, I went off of Gambit's load order, but he's got a s***-ton of stuff that I don't, and I've got quite a few that he doesn't. (Like I'm running Natural Atmospheric Commonwealth [NAC] which replaces everything from True Storms, and WET, to Darker Nights to Fr4nson's light tweaks, Interiors Enhanced.. and so on) So I wasn't sure, on a lot of that, where to put it, and just kind of sprinkled most of it around the load order. So, again, any advice on tweaking things, or directions to patches that I may be missing, and especially any video tutorials you may know of (or even written tutorials. They'll take me longer to figure out, but at this point I'm desperate) are EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks again.

{TL;DR} - Finally running stable, still kind of f***ed up, load order's up there if you wanna have a look.... HAALP !!! ...thanks. :-)

  • 3 weeks later...

So, I got the load order sorted as best I can. I've got it running, no more studder, no more ctd's. Still having a texture problem, though, and I'm fairly convinced that it's in a script heavy load order. My problem is that I don't even know how to identify whether something is using a script, and as a result damn sure don't know how to tell whether one is "resource intensive" (if that's the right term?) Correct me if I'm wrong...it's my understanding that too many scripts that are "resource intensive" ( I just don't know if that's the right term) can end up washing textures out, and that's what I'm getting. Not everything. Not even all the time. Some things look perfect...all the time, and others are kind of 30/70 (good/bad) that they're washed out. Vehichles, for example, I have Jester's Better Destroyed Vehichles, and almost all of the time they look like melted wax. Is there possibly a tool that will identify and load just scripted mods, and will show you which ones are "heavy" or "light"? (yeah that's a dumb question, I'm a noob :-P ) I know that xEdit does this, but again, I don't know what I'm looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

-PS-

I've updated my load order in my previous post, in case anyone is interested in trying to help. Thanks

Could have probably gone through and edited them all, but anyway, I believe the term I was looking for was "script heavy" not "resource intensive". Not sure, though, so I didn't change them. =)
