martin69
Hi everyone, maybe some of you can clarify something for me. Consider the following mods Set-A: Hyrids Hires Plant and Herb Retexture + Skyrim HD Textures Lite + Skyrim RedesignedSet-B: Redefined Dungeons Scenario 1 with only Set-A loaded: outdoor 45 fps averageScenario 2 with only Set-B loaded: outdoor 50 fps averageScenario 3 with Set-A & B loaded : outdoor 25 fps average Considering that Set-B has only dungeon-textures thats kinda strange. Do I miss something? I have a lot of mods that seem to have impacts I did not expect but the above mentioned are the weirdest. Does Skyrim load all textures up front regardless of the actual location? Do I have to make a choice between outdoor and indoor textures? Any explanation or tip would be greatly appreciated :D My PC: i7 920 / nvidia GTX 295 / 6 GB RAM / Windows 7 64 Bit
PowderdToastMan
Its based on what grid your on. Some of it is loaded in the background - if your character has the ability to see it if he turns, other details are rendered in real time Heres a crude but explanitory answer (best i could find): http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Bethsoft_Tutorial_Optimization#Portal
martin69
So assuming Bethesda implemented these optimizations, with these mods loaded standing in the center of riverwood and turning around should not lead to a drop of 20 frames right? PowderdToastMan
So assuming Bethesda implemented these optimizations, with these mods loaded standing in the center of riverwood and turning around should not lead to a drop of 20 frames right? Yes it can because many objects are rendered in real time. One example is if you turn to an area heavy with npc's or creatures, or anything that has rea-time havok actions going on. Like if your facing rocks and turn to an area heavy with grass and trees flailing in the wind. That flailing is rendered in real time. The prep for it can be preloaded but it wont try to show it until you turn to it. Go to any npc and get right in their face. real close. Then spin in a circle. Every time you get back around to their face you will see the render taking longer than the rest of your circle spinning. It preloads it, but rendering it on the screen will drop your fps. ark778
Skyrim is very poorly optimized however i can not understand why you would be losing so much fps unless some dungeon texture are being rendered at your test location. Are you measuring your fps in the exact same position and angle? Also, what is your fps with out either mods?
