obsidianoceans
So I've got about 225 hours logged in Skyrim and one idea that I've had over and over again but haven't seen posted is the option to bury the dead. You spend tons of time sometimes with a companion, only to lose them in a big battle, and you have no option but to leave their bodies there or toss them into a river or off a cliff something. Especially with as proud as Nords are, I can't see them ever leaving their fallen comrades there to rot without a proper burial. An option to bury bodies would be awesome. Graves that you could visit at later times would be a really cool option IMO. This mod would probably have to be aimed more at the NPCs who don't disappear after they die, like housecarls and followers...but then again my idea is raw and I have no idea what is actually possible as far as scripting and all that goes. But there are shovels in game with practically no use, and you do see graveyards, as well....So yeah. That's my idea. Feel free to add to it/discuss/etc. Thanks! hsynhkn
Good idea. Maybe not the actual graveyard in Skyrim, a piece of wood or stones should do it, for the sake of simplicity.
obsidianoceans
Good idea. Maybe not the actual graveyard in Skyrim, a piece of wood or stones should do it, for the sake of simplicity. yes! it would be cool if you could bury them wherever you wanted to, too...maybe under a particular tree, or whatever. there could also be a fire burning ceremony, as another option. i've seen horses and goats being burned above a fire on wood logs at one of the giant's hangouts, so the model would be already in the system. either way, i think that there should be a way to leave a marker/tombstone of some sort, or like you said, a piece of wood or a pile of stones or something. i was also thinking that if you that you could have a message box pop up when you selected the grave marker, that that would be AWESOME. not so you could necessarily read the a graphic on the grave site, but when you clicked "E" on it, dialog would come up, similar to the statues on your way up to High Hrothgar. "Here lies Lydia. She was annoyingly loyal and I loved watching her leave the room." or some sort of eulogy. lol could be a really cool (and funny) addition. obsidianoceans
Was thinking even more about this and I have tons of ideas but would like to hear what others think and if they think it would be worth the time once the CK comes out! Also, on a complete side note, if any of you modders need voices/music or bard songs...hit me up. I have access to decent recording gear and would love to get involved with a mod! Here's a link to the "Tale of the Tongues" cover I did in about an hour or so. Really basic, but the quality is decent enough to show that I can get some good sounds. Feel free to message me and we can chat! I also did a few other Skyrim covers for fun on there, check them out if you'd like. :P I also have access to one of those elusive females who could also do some dialog/singing. :D You can email me here: Email me Edited January 5, 2012 by obsidianoceans
Allephus
It'd be interesting to tie this feature into something like...a Resurrection Spell at Master Level Restoration. Maybe even a feature, such as: sanctification during the burial. And then you could return at a later time and raise them, provided...say....that you have a filled Grand Soul Gem. If possible, and further, if a modder took this up and would want to go through the extra would, it'd be kinda cool to be able to carry a sort of...."burial kit" that allows you to craft a Sarcophagus for placing the body in, and when you raise whoever is in it, it pops open with the same animation as the Dragon Priests, or Draugr. The resurrection spell would suffice for me, since I find it pretty lame sometimes that I need to go talk to some dude only to discover that my dragon fight in the middle of town had left several semi-important npcs dead. Aerrow
This feels like something that should have been in the game to begin with. There's nothing you can do to honor your fallen housecarl and you just have to leave them behind. When my dear Lydia fell in battle, I had no idea how to react so I did the next best thing to burying her. I stripped her of all her items and clothes, then threw her down a waterfall. Hahaha! Poor Lydia, she will be forever remembered for blocking hallways back in Breezehome. It would have been nice to dig a proper grave, write a eulogy on the gravestone, then play an honorable song on my lute for the ceremony. I dislike your resurrection idea, Allephus. It would ruin the emotion and any bit significance to simply bring them back from the dead. Even if it was a master level spell, or required some items I feel it would mess it up. IkarosCORE
I think your companions should get a resurrection, where you have to be near death, and suddenly -BOOM!- a random dead companion comes back to life (appears from a distance) , saves your sorry butt, and everything's good. It would make at-will resurrection difficult, as you would need to be VERY near death to have your companion come and save you. It would also be good for newer players, and unnecessary for skilled players

And since I no longer wear armor in dungeon crawling on my first character, I pretty much die instantly from traps. :turned: A lot funner though. IkarosCORE
Personally, I don't run around with a lot of potions. I'm more of a rounded character, now that Skyrim is classless, so I have a one off super heal with magicka, and the rest is based off of dodging stuff. Which can occasionally fail. hard. Eurosubstance
Even though Lydia hasn't perished yet I recommend this. When she would die you should get an option of carrying her on your back and back out into the wilderness where you would choose a suitable location. There, simply grab a shovel or have the option to ask travelers for one. "Drop" Lydia on the ground, have the shovel in hand and then press E on her with the shovel and a wooden or stone cross would spawn with Lydia's name on it. Yup. I also request this mod to be made. Would be a sad one, but a respectful one.
