"Starting Over" with Fallout 4 + Mods.

Hello. I have a few questions and maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I recently had to re-install windows 8 (updated to 8.1) and I wiped it clean. Wanted a fresh start. I didn't save any data. I reinstalled FO4 via Steam. I reinstalled NMM. All the mods I had installed prior are showing up in NMM. How is that possible? I haven't downloaded a single mod! I thought I wiped my windows clean ;) Have the mods been automatically installed? They have green check marks next to them. But, when I go to the "plug ins" column the only thing there is the 'Fallout 4.esm'.

I went into my Fallout 4 folder in the steamapps section and couldn't find any mods in there. Is that where they would go? Sorry for the newbie questions, but I want to play FO4 again with all the mods I had previously. I think it's amazing NMM 'remembered' what mods I had before :) Awesome!

Thanks again...

Doesn't Steam store stuff like that in your profile, game settings or the Cloud ?

That shouldn't be possible on a formatted system. The only way or source is the nexus login meta data records of your activity. DID you log into the site thru Nmm inter-phase?

Steam hold no mod records of any kind from this web site, it does however hold your steam downloads from the works shop parts. Not affiliated with the nexus.

Thanks for the responses guys. I only have ever downloaded mods thru nexus, this website. I am wondering the same thing Purr, how the heck is NMM showing the mods I had installed before the re-install of windows? Is it some fail-safe that NMM has? Are you thinking I need to download them all again and activate them - even tho NMM says I have them and are running (green check marks)? Should I uninstall and reinstall NMM?

I am ? sort of choosy, If an issue such as this takes place..I am Leroy of a program that does things like this. Steam, I can understand. NMM ?

and you say no mods came from here...ok, so now I am mystified too.

Use Mod organizer instead, that one works. What ever "tracking mechanized amount of Weird thing is involved with Nmm, that..result is do not or will not trust, but, that's me.

If you did not format that hard drive?

then I know how it took place.

Is it some fail-safe that NMM has?

this is not that.

Are you thinking I need to download them all again

That is a normal result from what you have done, your going to do this any way.

But..IF you ported back into your new system things that contained your old saves? then this is saved game data showing up in Nmm.

I would need to see the exact procedure to track down the where and what 4's.

All I know is this. I can not use Nmm, I can not install Nmm in a sandboxie Isolated VM, any program that will not operate in this manner I will not use.

Any program that fources software installs that windows requires and is already installed can damage an operating system and security .NET is not required for games above 2.0 and is standard with all OS's from windows 95 and up.

There comes a point where stupid meets disaster. windows 10 has a cow too. all programs are tested in VM's here, if they break that box, they break your back..

Trust must be earned, I see nothing to trust here. Microsoft see's the same. The source code is available to rewrite Nmm if you need to but I don't need too.

Some systems I use have zero need for .net software.

Bottom line, My bet is on a saved game you saved placed back...if not? Run fast, really fast away from what ever VOODOO is going on.
