So far you have a 3d object that may or may not already be in .nif format - Nifscope does that very well. What you have is called a Mesh. And for use in the game should look lsomthing like this: YourObjectName.nif .To have a complete object , your mesh needs a Texture - actually 2 textures. Think of texture as the coating of the object - color and pattern, while Mesh is the bare 3d shape without the coat.

You get the texture either by assigning one from the default game. The instructions are available in the CS wiki. Or by creating your own with a program like photoshop or Gimp. Gimp is free and there are many tutorials available for it on line. It will be able to save your object with the texture you want using the .dds format.

Your .nif object needs 2 .dds files associated with it to work.

Once you have your Mesh (.nif) and both textures (.dds) you can use the CS to place your object into a cell in the oblivion world.

If when you look for your object you see a yellow block with a purple ! the game has found your object but not the texture. if it has a funny color, usually violet or pink the game cannot find your texture. If there is nothing, it may not have found the object to exist in the game.

You can get gimp here http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14920

And a tutorial here http://www.gimp.org/docs/

Photoshop can take the place of gimp. I'm not sure if it can export .dds files or not. if it can't you may need gimp to convert the photoshop textures to .dds.

If I read you right, you used the dds converter to try to convert something to a dds format. was it a photoshop prog, and what format?

As I am not familiar with Milkshape I don't know what the file format is. Whatever it iis though, there should be some program that can import it and then export it as a .nif.

The problem with going through a half dozen conversions is you loose a little bit on each conversion.

I do know that Gimp is very close to photoshop. close enough that there is a version called Gimpshop that uses the same interface as photoshop. and it does work with .dds files. I would asume that it also works with the native photoshop files also. A quick look shows that there is am Nvidia plug in for Photoshop that allows it to export as .dds.

There is a section on the tesnexus that has a lot of info on making mods as well as a lot of info on the various tools. Maybe there is a tutorial on converting meshes from whatever format Milkshape uses to a .nif that can be used in the CS. Several programs have plug ins for either .dds or .nif

Look here http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showforum=200 Lots of good info.
