Goodfortitude
Hi, I have done quite a lot of searching on the net and in the forum for interesting clothing for npc's. I've found a few so far. One was the "rags" mod, which was decent, but I wasn't really looking for rags. The other was NPC new clothes, which was very diversified but kind of modern for Oblivion IMO, aside from the fact that I'd have to download a whole host of other mods just to run it. All the others that I've found were either too modern or made for the playable character only. Anyone know of anything? thanks :)
Vagrant0
You won't find many clothing mods which affect NPCs any more. The main reason for this is because of conflicts occuring with those NPCs. Since many (most those using mods) have several (if not most) of the NPCs in the game altered with new scripting, any sort of clothing mod (which alters the NPC) will cause some conflicts to occur. While this may seem minor, due to the nature of those mods (where if one script doesn't work, many others get screwed) even minor conflicts should be avoided. Additionally, most of the clothing mods out there tend to have either alot of feminine clothing, or modern clothing, so trying to even find alternate garb for NPCs which fits with the world can be hard to do. Nevermind that you'd need to get permission from the authors of those mods, and have to hope that they are all for the same body style. Needless to say, it's complicated. The closest you will get is with mods like OOO which add several new NPCs and change many NPC's equipment (within the same mod which affects scripting to avoid conflicts). If you were able to find some "player only clothing" mods that suit your needs, you could always make a mod for your own use that will allow you to refresh an NPCs outfit to one of those other clothes. Another reason why this hasn't been done so much is because people often identify NPCs by what they're wearing more than their name... So an NPC changing clothes may lead to some confusion. giskard44
Unfortunate but true but I am after NPC clothing that matches oblivions style my self for my own mods. Something to spice things up. So if anybody wants to make any, speak to me at http://www.respawn.co.uk about it. File size is an issue of course with all mods but a few well thought out items would make all the difference. giskard
bben46
You can use 'Toaster says Share' mod to give clothing to NPCs after you have made them a friend. You need to remove their regular clothes to make them wear the new stuff.
giskard44
You can use 'Toaster says Share' mod to give clothing to NPCs after you have made them a friend. You need to remove their regular clothes to make them wear the new stuff. That will work with kvatch aftermath NPCs because it has support for it (those that dont go to other cities anyway), but if you do that with other NPCs, they will lose everything you give them every 3 days. SickleYield
Not all other NPCs. Most people with individual names (Deetsan, Contumelorius Florius, Vigge, et cetera) will not have that problem. The problem only occurs with "nameless" NPCs such as city guards and the various worshippers/travelers added by FCOM mods - those where the same face, name, and ID are being used repeatedly in the game. This is annoying, since those are the most common NPCs in the game, but there's no way the mod maker could've avoided it.
Goodfortitude
"Another reason why this hasn't been done so much is because people often identify NPCs by what they're wearing more than their name... Noticing the clothes to me was like noticing the individual hills in vanilla Oblivion, or the individual rocks. I mean they're all the same! Don't get me wrong, I'm not harping on the game or Bethesda at all. After playing Oblivion (and Morrowind), Bethesda quickly became one of my all time favorite companies. With that said, one of the first things that I noticed in Oblivion was that all of the NPC's were obviously brothers and sisters, all had the same facial "look" with some subtle variations, and they all shopped at the SAME clothing store. I guess I expected a little more variety. I've been around the block a little too much to be taken in by advertisements, but I did it again. When I looked at the back of the box in the store, something about "Interact with over 1000 characters that have full 24/7 schedules, dynamic conversations, full speech....." lead me to believe that meant 1000 DIFFERENT characters. Silly me. The only real difference was their names, in cases where they had a unique name, with exception of SOME unique dialog here and there. Since downloading TNR all races and Ren's beauty pack, I've felt VERY refreshed...Very refreshed. But they still all shop at the same store. I'm thinking this...if giskard44 can really put together a genuine mod that can give the characters different tastes in clothing without making it look like they just popped into the 22nd century, and it doesn't conflict too much with TNR or Ren's, if it's possible, of course, then I'm behind him all the way. I can probably let some of my other mods go if need be......i guess.....maybe. Anyway, I can do some minor modding for myself but nothing that heavy. So, thanks everyone for the responses and hard work you all put in!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and when they come out with the elder scrolls V, don't just quit the mod, eh??? 'cause i'll still be a playin'. :)
