GMatthews
I saw a guy post a fairly obnoxious named pre-made character -basically just to compain about how many people put pre-made character save games in the mods section to download. I actually agreed with what he said, just not how he said it. 1) Why do people feel the need to submit characters as a download?2) Why is it considered a mod and sprinkled in with true mods so I have to sort through them? I have just been ignoring them and I will continue to. I was just wondering why people clutter up actual mods with them.Ideally, I would guess it would be nice if there were a "LATEST MODS" section and a "LATEST CHARACTER SAVES" section. phantur
1) Some people have a nack for making good looking characters/proud of their work while others don't have the time or just can't seem to accomplish it. Others could care less about the main storyline and just want to explore with end game stats/equipment. Thus, pre-made characters are born. 2) Mod = short for modified. You're modifying your game files when you download and replace/add a savegame. So, technically, they are mods. We spent a lot of time slowly ticking that stupid slider back and forth for the perfect face and then felt like sharing it for those who need it to download. Is that so bad? News flash buddy, there's a "Categories" tab under "Files". Use it if you don't want to sort through save games. --- Let me give you an example. Oblivion. We all know and love that game... and know how dreadfully exhausting it was to create a decent looking character... especially a female. So, I downloaded my first save game, Jasmine, and played on it while slowly, ever so slowly, creating my own character face. I didn't know how to make a good face, so I downloaded one. *shrugs* Right now, I look at a few of my friends' characters in Skyrim and they look downright appalling. News flash buddy -I was very respectful in my post so please return the favor.I know there are categories -but those don't apply in the latest files part. I was pointing out two seperate LATEST FILES would be nice. And it was much MUCH more difficult to make a decent looking character in Oblivion. Skyrim has improved the process immensely. I know people are downloading the files, it just boggles my mind that there are so many being uploaded.
VictoriaG
People are free to upload anything they like within the rules of the site, generally if a mod is not to your liking then best just move onto to the next one. Perhaps you'll see more content to your liking when the CK is released.

Sounded anything but respectful. To me, the respectful thing would have been to ask "why" and left it at that. Everything past that was unneeded. Also, how hard is it to sort through save games? Go to "New Recently" and you can clearly see those that sound like save games. Even if you aren't certain, it takes a second to check. Also, while skyrim has improved, it's still not the easiest thing to create a good looking character. There's decent and then there's good. As to why there are so many, well... Today I've seen 4 from one person. Also, a lot of people take pride in their work. Why are there like 20 different retextures of Forsworn Armor? Same deal. They made something they liked and thought was better than the others, so they post. Not only that, but I'm not seeing many mods being released... period. Without CK, a lot of people are holding onto what they have in order to release them in whole mod packages/brainstorming for what potential mod they can do. Save games can be created without CK. So... with all those other mods lacking, the few save games seem like a lot. Edited January 5, 2012 by phantur
zukenft
Skyrim is a popular game. That means a lot of young kids and beginners play this game. that means they will feel like a master of modding by uploading their character saves or basic retexes. can't be helped. solution : play a less popular game. GMatthews
solution : play a less popular game.Actually, best served by just continuing to ignore those "mods" and not ask questions that may hurt people's feelings. Thanks for the replies. Edited January 5, 2012 by GMatthews
Shantih
Savegames can actually be useful to modders for testing purposes (not talking about level 1 saves). Players who have uploaded level 1 saves simply want to share some of the great faces they've made (it doesn't mean that they are kids or beginners). Nothing wrong with that. They may not be real mods (I personally agree with you on that point) but it's all in the spirit of sharing something with the community. Anyway ignoring them if you don't like them is definitely the right decision. Edited January 5, 2012 by Shantih
STSG
I actually find the lvl 1 saves useful as presets (for the second char on). Even though I would edit them to adjust to my own preferences I prefer to start from something I already like and the inherent presets aren't very good imo.
