Help! Newbie attempting to manually install a mod

Ok, so I'm really not computer savvy. At all. You would probably have an easier time teaching your grandmother how to install mods than you would with me, so please keep things as simple as possible lol

Anyways, after playing Skyrim on the PS3 for a couple years I decided to get it for my laptop. I've done some basic fiddling with the creation kit, added some custom followers, make certain armor craftable, that sort of thing. I've come across a couple of the minor bugs the game has that I couldn't fix myself and I turned my attention to the USLEEP mod.

So I download the nexus mod manager thing. Didn't work, tried running as the administrator, still didn't work. Says I have to move the install info into the program files. I have no idea how to do that, and after doing some research I believe I read that doing so anyways would uninstall and then reinstall my mods, and my biggest fear is doing so might erase all that hard work I did on the creation kit. So I said screw it I'll do it manually.

Read a tutorial, pasted the mod in my game data, didn't work. Then I found out I have to extract the mod data. I download that 7-zip thing, have zero idea how that works, I believe I managed to extract the data, but I still couldn't get it to work. On top of that, I clicked "open" on the mod, and my computer asked me what program do I want to open the mod in, and I chose 7-zip and accidentally made that the default program my mods are opened in and now whenever I download a mod the Icon next to it is the 7-zip logo instead of that little file icon and I have no idea how to change that back....

So yeah, I no clue what I'm doing and I need help. Also this is my first time posting here so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section or anything.

I'd like to welcome you to the world of never ending modding. This is your chance to leave and play the game, or play the game called "modding Skyrim".

You will grow in skill, you think you will someday have the perfect load order, and that everything will someday not crash while running 200+ plugins.

But let me tell you, it has been a great ride and I am almost to the finish line.

I am streaming some modding. come through for questions

Hey man, thank you very much for the welcome and for offering to help! But luckily I figured out what I was doing wrong. So long story short, I'm an idiot because I was modding the special edition of Skyrim when I play with the original version of Skyrim. That's why the mod wasn't showing up....I was modding the wrong game....

Yup.
