Realistic Sneak

I am not impressed with the current sneak settings in Skyrim or in any of the currently released sneak mods. I would like to see a sneak system that is more realistic. I like having extremely deadly battles with near 1 or two hit kills on most enemies and myself (with the exception of heavily armored opponents), especially with a bow. I also have it set for more enemy spawns. now even tho my enemies drop with only a few hits, so do i, so large numbers of enemies attacking me all at once is really impossible to survive. so my answer to this is the answer to any reasonable person..i must sneak around and pick off stragglers and widdle down the numbers until i can survive a direct confrontation. the only problem is in the vanilla game i can pirch up on a rock in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm...and shoot a bandit in the back and his friend who is 15 feet away somehow hears it happen and then immediately notices me up on a rock in black armor behind a tree, then every bandit in camp is shooting arrows with pinpoint accuracy and charging me ...bogus.

what i would like to see is decreased field of vision at night...and even further decreased during storms. hearing as well should be decreased according to the storms. also a strong reduction in bow accuracy (for enemies) overall would be nice. then further reductions during night time...and further still during a storm.

also the time an enemy continues to look for you should be drastically increased. i know if my friend was shot dead right in front of me i wouldn't drop my guard after 10 seconds. I'm thinking something more like 10 minutes. enemies would continue to be on guard and searching for pretty much the entire encounter, though they should be far less likely to find me unless they actually see me pass through their direct line of sight ( and only he would be alerted, not the entire camp, unless another enemie directly sees his friend fighting me, and so on). also the sounds of the battle (obviously effected by weather conditions) may reveal a general location of battle and cause the enemy to cautiously wander that direction until the sees us...but it should not immediately give the enemy the location of the conflict.

i think this should create a much more realistic and immersive sneaking experience. :)))

Hey envyme,

Sounds like a brilliant idea and highly possible and I'd like to try and work on it. However a mod like this would most likely be based a lot on scripting so it would probably be best to wait until the Creation Kit comes out, seeing as Skyrim uses a unique scripting language accessible (as far as I am aware) only through the program the developers used to make it. I would really like to have a mod like this and I agree that the sneaking in Skyrim (and all the Elder Scrolls games) could be improved upon a lot. I also think a lot of it might be done by simply changing certain values in the kit which wouldn't make it too hard to make; though this might just be me dreaming.

Sounds very good, that would indeed be sweet and I would download it immeaditely. But about your example, with high enough sneaking skill in vanilla, enemies can step on your toes and still don't find you (just murmuring about the wind killing his partner..) On the last mission of the Brotherhood, I sneaked through the middle of well lit tavern room full of people without them noticing.. you can make a better sneaker than Garret in vanilla.. :D

It's like the bandits are hive-minded CSI agents in fur armor. "The trajectory of how he fell and the position of the arrow strike means it must have came.... FROM OVER THERE! EVERYONE ATTACK!!"

I can't remember what the mod was called, but I had one on Fallout New Vegas that made nights & interiors darker, and that hindered enemies' FOV a bit. I wonder if the same can be done in Skyrim... Now that I think about it, I had a couple of mods that changed the weather & added sand & radstorms too. Maybe the mods were conflicting & that was the end result? Oh well, worked out in my favor!

I wouldn't say 10 minutes, but I get where you're going. Max time should be about 5-6 minutes real time, seeing as how one game hour is like 15-20 minutes real time (don't know actual values). After that you should slowly start losing their attention, a lot slower than vanilla's, of course. After the first intrusion, though, their resistance should be a bit tougher for ranged sneak attacks - to mimic a tense enemy that's expecting a sneak attack. Melee damage should stay the same, as the difficulty for getting that close is tougher than sniping from off a ledge.

Also the enemies should search other areas outdoors. They tend to cluster up instead of spreading out to search. Fan out into groups of two, possibly leave one person by the body to keep watch in case you come back.

Also you should be able to hear them yelling for help more clearly, but if you kill them before the others have a chance to come to his/her aid, they don't successfully detect where you are, instead they get more confused/agitated that they can't find you (think: Arkham City).

I completely agree, but the quick deaths should be optimal, because it would potentially break the rest of the game mechanics... Although the current combat is unrealistic at times, i rather like it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I've never modded an elder scrolls game, but doesn't the skyrim script extender allow for this kind of scripting?
