How do I change the FO4Edit Data Path?

I rage-reinstalled the game. Long story short, I reinstalled the game in a different folder than before. However, when I try to launch FO4Edit, I get the message "Note: Active plugin List contains nonexisting file." Scrolling up a little bit, I find the message "Using Fallout4 Data Path:" and then it lists the PREVIOUS path I had the game installed in.

How do I change the path? I can't find any menus in FO4Edit without first launching the esm/esp files, and it automatically follows that previous path as soon as I fire up the app.

I tried deleting and re-downloading FO4Edit, but that doesn't work. It still tries to re-use the old data path.

Starting Fallout4Launcher.exe once will update the registry, no need to run the game. FO4Edit uses the same data and should run fine afterwards.

Otherwise the registry should be located at: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout4]

And the key should say something like: "Installed Path"="E:\\Games\\Fallout 4\\"

The first suggestion didn't work. But I can't figure out how to reach the folder you specify in the second suggestion.

If I start from the start menu, how do I get to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE? I can't figure out where that folder is? Do I click on "Computer?" Do I click on "Documents?" Do I click on my computer's name?

First, make sure you reboot. Running the games launcher should update immediately but it's always best to make sure. It sounds odd that if it doesn't update and does indicate that something else may wrong. However if you want to try editing the registry read this:

PLAN A

*Make a system restore snapshot so you have a possible way to revert any changes.

* Start the "Run"-dialogue. Win7 should have this in the start-menu near the bottom. Win10 you need right click (or WIN+X) the start-button and choose Run also near the end. Or you can do WIN+R which is the hotkeys to start it by default. WIN being the Windows button on your keyboard (next to Alt and Alt Gr on my keyboards layout)

* Type in regedit and press enter, if you get an administrator question just say yes otherwise you won't be allowed to run the Registry Editor. Once it's started just navigate to the key like you would a folder in the file explorer. You should have a key already which points to your old location. Double-click it and change it to your current path. Reboot if it doesn't work straight away.

If you notice anything off when trying this, don't take a chance post another message. If you mess up the registry pretty much a fresh reinstall of the OS is needed.

PLAN B:

This is pretty advanced stuff for the average user, it's not a folder it's a registry setting. If you want tell me what your path is and I can make a .reg file that you just click and Windows registery will update with the information it contains.

However it's bad practice to accept such files from random strangers, so I suggest you do this instead. Open notepad paste the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout4]
"Installed Path"="E:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Fallout 4\\"

You need to change the install path to match yours though, that is my path yours will differ I'm sure. Let's say yours is at F:\Games\Fallout 4\. The text above should then be:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout4]
"Installed Path"="F:\\Games\\Fallout 4\\"

Then you save the file as FO4.reg, make sure Notepad doesn't try to save it as a .txt. Then you just doubleclick and the information should be added.
