Taedus
I joined the thieves guild because I play a thief oriented character and there wasn't any other guild that interested me. But at the start they are very ruthless and I don't feel like supporting a bunch of bullies who make a living from extortion. Do they improve later when you become a nightingale? I liked the thieves guild better in Oblivion, where they were helping the poor, a more noble cause.
gahnzz
The Guild in Skyrim is pretty much centered around money and politics. They aren't as altruistic as the Thieves in Oblivion but once you get up past the Nightingale part of the story, you start getting quests about saving the guild from it's current plight and helping to rebuild it into it's former self... Dukkah
It was strange to see how much longer and deeper the Thieves guild and DB lines were in comparison to Mages guild and Companions. Unlike the latter two, I felt invested in the former. It generally seems to be your job to restore lost honor in the game; it was a theme that stuck out to me. It even reaches its apex in the Battle-Born vs Gray-Mane rivalry in Whiterun (or, if you will, the Empire vs Stormcloak theme). To that extent, yes they are corrupt and greedy, but by restoring their position you also restore that lost honor. That's how I roleplayed it anyway. Sounds good. Thanks for your replies. Edited January 5, 2012 by Taedus
