laquak84
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiUvxRdQ4HoPart 1. Nahkriin, Frost Dragon and Elder Dragon So yeah this is my Mage. I dump everything in mana and I run around with 100 hp and stamina on Master difficulty and I find it extremely easy and challenging. I do have enchanting maxed and alchemy maxed but I did not use any sort of loops or exploits and as you can tell I still mana dump. I also did not use any potions aswell only Highborn which is racial so no problem there. As discussed with player and friends over at steam forums Impact is overpowered and is a full enemy lockdown, we all know this, but in this example I did not use dual cast to, more or less prove a point that it is possible to be a great mage in this game without by using proper tactics, shouts and kiting. I also have Illusion maxed and I do not use conjury magic save for Soul Trap so I can recharge my staves when mana is low. Sure I died, mainly to Nahkriin do to mistakes in position but I actualy had 2 good strategies while fighting Nahkriin and the dragons but I captured this one because I liked it more. My 1st was similar to this one utilizing Become Ethereal and running across and focusing on dragons first but then I decided that Nahkriin needs to get taken care of first. It kind of sucks that he had half life but I think thats with everybody for some reason *shrugs* In conlusion I think Magery is really powerfull here and challenging. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fokucVNcN_cPart 2. Krosis and Frost DragonGoing to have to sacrifice HD *shrugs*. *shakes fist at fraps and camtasia* Wasn't as bad as I thought. I actualy had about 4 good footages captured but this was one the better out of all of them. On this one I figured I need to dispatch the dragon first as Krosis had more health. a lot of really close calls and luck. I tried Whirlwind Sprint instead of Become Ethereal but dragon breath seems to lock on target so it wasn't as viable against the dragon. This was a really fun battle and very adrenaline rushed. Definately had to use environment on this one as well as fighting in the open with such low hp would be silly. I guess next would be tight quaters in dungeons. PR4Y
nobody said that mages couldn't be great... it's just that destruction spells don't scale well, and even demonstrated in this video, your lightning bolt tickles the enemy. some people will say this is a good thing and makes for a more challenging experience... while others will say "WTF I CAN'T 1SHOT EVERYTHING ON MASTERS?!!?" it's all preference. I absolutely love my pure mage... very fun character, even at higher levels. some people will just always whine about balance, and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. nice video. surg23
I see you have some skill, but i want to see you fight an Elder dragon with no walls to hide behind, they 1-shot me and i have 500hp.

This is true to a certain extent... but the point the OP is getting at is more or less, Why run up and fight heads on when you can be TACTICAL about it? Use the terrain / architecture to your advantage? There's a LOT of whining on these forums about how destruction isn't as OP as smithing / enchanting... but I say destruction is perfectly fine as-is. Sure, you don't 2-3hit elder dragons... and can't 1hit anything that isn't a unique mob. So what? This game is supposed to be challenging, not mindless button mashing. Don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking the guy. I just think it's tedious and not practical. I have done the master mage thing, and running around a rock 30 times, each time you run into a bear is the opposite of fun after a while. But if he enjoys it good for him.
PR4Y
I played a battlemage style, and it was very effective. No points into juggernaut (just 1) with smithing / enchanting to cover up the rest and get my max armor rating. Also, I only put about 250-300 points into magicka, the rest went 100% health. Running around with 100 health is a bit silly IMO, and there is no need of any more then 300-400 mana if you have -%COST enchants on your gear. laquak84
Thanks for the suggestions. I will definately try a Ancient Dragon (I think my games scales Ancients now) 1v1 without obsticles and see if something else may work. I can see why its tedious but its something different :) Now if they make it that Telekenisis does damage. I was really disappointed that I could not damage the enemy with Telekenisis. I tried dragon bones and solid dwemer blocks as telekenetic projectiles do to their weight but not enough damage :) I wanted to make Ermac from Mortal Kombat :)

By the way, i have to hand it to you for building a Mana-Mage, it's how Mages should be played. Mana/Magicka is after all the heart and soul of Spellcasters. I really wish they would have structured it so Magicka increases spell damage per point, or something of that nature. Regards an open dragon fight, i guess you could always stack some Fire/Frost resist and be fine ... but where's the fun in that lol.
laquak84
I agree, but something tells me that some where in Bethesdas offices they decided that magery should be as is. I know of the mod that increases damage but I havent modded my game as I will rather wait and see official patches. As far as resistanses that even if I cap them out 100 hp wont be enough to sustain damage over time of their breath attack. I've discovered that after my health drops below 85ish I automaticaly die as I would be incinerated or burned so I figured I'd dump all my enchants to mana in a way that I can still fully mana dump. Now I have to beat the main quest as there is no way going back but I have some dragon roosts spawns that Greybeards gave me so there will probably be a ancient dragon there. Also I havent done Shearpoint and that will be a real challenge because its rather open and there is a dragon and Krosis there :)
Zebideedee
I think the tactical aspect goes out the window when the Mages can see you round corners + 1 hit kill you. I'm at the point where I cast a frost atronach, then run round the corner like a MW3 gamer and slice & dice while they busy for the 2 seconds it takes for them to take it down.Scaling ft-questionable Paralysis on both blades  Edited January 6, 2012 by Zebideedee
