CalibanX
So I'm playing a Breton Battle Mage character now and I've been using Bound Sword with Shields since the beginning of the game. Now I'm at Level 27 and I'm starting to find weapons in loot & for sale that is starting to look much more aggressive than my Bound Sword. I heard on the forums that the Bound Sword damage is equivalent to Legendary Steel Swords. Is this damage amount static or does it change with your Level or Conjuration Skill? Basically, I'm wondering if the Bound Sword is going to cut it after level 30. Any ideas?
Moredhel
Hmm, I reckon you've selected the Mystic Binding perk (x2 dmg for bound weapons, it's a must-have!), but I had the same problem around lvl 28 with conjuration skill around 48-ish, my crafted (unimproved) daedric sword did about 1.5x the damage :\ Edited January 6, 2012 by Moredhel
CalibanX
I thought that Bound Weapons were supposed to be summoned, real, yet temporary, Daedric weapons but I'm getting the impression that isn't the case. It seems odd to me that permanent Daedric weapons would do more damage than the Summoned version. After all, you can't upgrade or enchant Bound weapons. And yeah, I got the Con Bound Weapon Perks right off the bat. It's been very effective for me so far, I'm just wondering how far you can go with it before the real weapons surpass the Bound ones? Moredhel
Don't really know... what I do know is that I lost interest in my Battlemage (who had Spellbreaker, Peryite's shield, equipped as well) just because of dealing far less dmg with the bound wep. BrknSoul
I found Bound Weapons to be more useful at lower levels, but I still use them to capture souls and to banish atronachs. They're a handy fall back for when you're waiting for mana, or just killing a lot of easy mobs.
TimF
The empowered bound sword is equivalent of a regular glass sword. The best bound weapon is a bow, which gets supply of daedric-equivalent arrows and by far outperforms daedric bow. The problem with bound weapons (which why I never use them) is that they increase and depend on a corresponding combat skill, and a mage would have to avoid dropping points in a useless skill and excessive leveling, while the warrior can craft better weapons. Well, an archer,maybe... He's also the one who can benefit from conjuration... Edited January 6, 2012 by TimF

Do they build one hand skill as you use them, or just conjuration? I was thinking of going this route as well for the soul trap and atronach bane perks. My mage is still in infancy tho, so not too late for me to change if this turns out to be teh suck.
chanchan05
I think they'd benefit from the perks. I have a wood elf archer and out of curiousity I went ahead and tried a bound bow and I was single shot-ing draugr wights, and the paralyze perk at level 100 archery is working. The crits and sneak damage works as well if I remember correctly. I'll try again and check. But as I use the bound weapons, they increase the skill for that particular weapon. I've been using bound weapons exclusively since I got them on my second character who has no destruction talents whatsoever other than the first free "flames" spell which he has used only once in Saarthal. My archery and one-handed skills have reached 40-ish already using just bound weapons.
CalibanX
I'm still using the bound weapons at Level 35 and they work out fine for all enemies except bosses. For the bosses I use an enchanted elven sword. I find that using the bound weapons with the soul trap perk works really nice if you're also pursuing Enchanting, which I am (sort of). Having tons of filled soul gems that auto fill for you in combat is nice.
Moredhel
I prefer a bow with Soultrap, it's awesome when you're an assassin!
