False "save corruption" during gameplay

@ebkidd, when using iPreloadSizeLimit=8388608000, BethINI gives a warning about it being a "Controversial Tweak". Do you know why specifying how much RAM the computer can allocate for pre-loading game data is considered controversial?

If anyone is interesting in reading up on (and see comparison screenshots) these and more Skyrim .ini tweaks, check out the Geforce.com Skyrim Tweaks guide and the [Memory, Loading & Multithreading Variables] section of Tweakguides.com\Oblivion

Well whateveri did seems to have worked for me, with my current pretty heavy mod loadoutim able to play for hours without issues and i pretty much never get combat freezing anymore only one time in this save in ustengrav. So for the most part the save corrupt issue has been fixed for me, it does happen eventually butaslong as i can play few hours im fine with it.

I went back a few pages just to recap what you did... and I think you never really gave specifics as to what you actually did...

Would you mind covering what you can remember doing recently for your current setup?

Aleski134: You have eliminated the bug? Could you post a new modwatch? But to summarize, all you really did was shave down your mod list a bit, do the ini tweak, and change out your weather mod? What weather mod were you using before?

FOR THE NEWCOMERS AND EVERYONE FOLLOWING ALONG: This is what we have found out to this point (to summarize 88 pages of discussion):

SSE bug-> In game it shows your saves to be falsely corrupted. Happens at semi random intervals. Once present: +/- game freeze, +/- new quests not being activated, +/- not being able to communicate with certain NPCs, +/- menus not showing text. All issues are solved once game is exited and reopened....until it happens again.

- Bug not mod specific to a single mod

- No obvious correlation to string count

- +/- results with removing sky UI and subtitles

- bug seems to be accelerated by lots of crafting menus

- Some correlation with plugin count. The magic number seems to be in the ballpark of 170-180 active esps.

- Merged mods are okay.

- ini tweak seems to help some people, or at least slows its appearence down

- depending on load order it can appear from 30 sec to 3 hours in game, with avg time being around 20min

Here's the ini tweak that seems to help:

[General]

sLanguage=ENGLISH

uGridsToLoad=5

uExteriorCell Buffer=36

bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=0

iPreloadSizeLimit=4194304000

bUseHardDriveCache=1

bUseBackgroundFileLoader=1

bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1

uStaticNeverFade=1

iPostProcessMillisecondsLoadingQueuedPriority=5

bForceFullLOD=1

If you are on a system with 16GB of RAM or more, use this:

iPreloadSizeLimit=8388608000

I miss anything guys?

I miss anything guys?

Great summary!

I have also eliminated the bug (have been playing 10-15 hours on a couple of different characters without a single save corruption), and I am not able to force it by crafting a bunch anymore either.

My mod setup is a lot more script heavy now than when I first got into this mess, and I have also added a metric crap-ton of items and mods though Nexus Skyrim Overhaul and Legacy of the Dragonborn. NSO alone is 331 mods merged into a couple of plugins on top of the other 450+ mods I am running, so I'd say it's a fairly heavy mod setup.

Current Modwatch if anyone is interested.

Savegame details on new game: 170 active plugins - 45228 strings - 6634 scripts - 83089 script instances - 4.67mb

...

I use:

uExterior Cell Buffer=64

I believe that's one of the changes necessary when changing uGrids, and IIRC there's specific values to specific changes, just for others reading that don't know what it's for.

YES I am back! City decided to dig up my internet line since the city keeps removing the little orange flags to indicate there IS a line burried, then when I complain about them digging up my line, they come back and say "well there were no little orange flags" well there were till y'all took them.

ANYWAYS... Waylander, great summary, may need to get that stickied or have the first post edited (if it isn't already, I haven't checked). I may play around with the INI tweaks a bit more, I know I can probably bump the value of:

iPreloadSizeLimit=8388608000 (for 16GB)

to iPreloadSizeLimit=16777216000 (since I have 32GB RAM) and see if that may make a difference there too. Probably not for me, as this tweak hasn't helped me on my end (except in smoothing out performance, which is great, and definitely think people should do this regardless) just to play with it. I've been without internet the past few days so I'm excited to be back on to rot my brain even further...

Nope lol.

Are you still at well above 200 active plugins?

.esp count seems to play a major role in my setup. If I keep it around 170, it's all fine even though I have a lot of merged plugins. I have lost count a long time ago how many plugins I actually have, but its well above 300.

Plugins could be part of it but idk tbh. Im still at 235 but i havent merged any. Imo scripts seem to have the most effect as in your total scripts.

Must be what kind of scripts then, or if you have some that doesn't play along, as I have far more scrips now with no corruption issues than I had when i got corruption every 15-20 minutes.
