ell46
This is really bugging me. I sided in Whiterun with the GreyManes and one of the Battle-born women put out a contract on me. Miffed... I killed her when I got back to town and paid the fine, which led to another contract, so I killed her and paid the fine and so it went on until the last of the sons confronted me out in the middle of nowhere and I killed him, I went back to town and tried to kill the old man but of course you can't because he is needed for a future quest, so I just beat him up and paid the fine. The next time I went to Whiterun, I did the run round the shops routine to sell off my stuff and went to Dragonsreach to sell to the Wizard bloke. I entered the Palace and as soon as my head popped up above the stairs the Jarl and is crew drew weapons and attacked me and I've no idea why. Loaded the quick save from just before I entered the Palace and decided as I wasn't welcome there any more, I would see what I could sell at the Drunken Huntsman. Arrived in the shop and the bloke behind the counter jumps as far away from me as he can, draws his bow and starts trying to kill me. I ran outside, thinking the guards would take him down and I wouldn't have to dirty my hands. They just ran for it saying, I'm not sticking around here so I killed him and now I'm 1 less shop keeper to sell stuff to in Whiterun. Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why it happened? I did go back to the Palace on the next visit and it's like nothing happened, even the blokes brother is all friendly smiles. Lachdonin
I've found that if you kill enough people within a Hold, everyone in the Hold becomes hostile. Moral of the story...Don't kill people. It makes you unpopular.
ell46
That's the thing, everything is OK since I had to kill the bloke who runs the Drunken Huntsman, I thought that would make things even worse, but no.
JanusForbeare
It sounds to me like you pissed off some invisible "Whiterun" faction, then (presumably) regained some rep with them. Completing quests anywhere in the hold, or during the MQ, could conceivably have this effect. Just a theory though.
